Do you think carbon tax will cause the price of silver to increase (due to increased manufacturing costs as silver requires energy/carbon to make)?

If so do you think we could see a spike/hike in price in the coming months following carbon tax in July?

I think that if the carbon tax stays with us nothing will be exempt from its grip. Worse than gst and ultimately will have a greater impact on your lifestyle if you are an "average Aussie".

It probably won't push prices higher as most producers across the world won't have to pay it. Like the link The Pelican posted, they'll just close down factories in Australia.

Scary times, Nyrstar Hobart zinc smelter:

    Hopefully they don't close.

And this will have a lot to do with whether the Port Pirie plant remains open rather than the carbon tax in this example.

yes its a smart move pushing more money off shore , now if they taxed at the mine face and the companies wanted the mined material the money would have stayed.

Many smelters and heavy industries have been closing for years in Australia under both Liberal and Labor Governments. Steel at Woolongong, Whyalla, oil refineries etc etc. The Port Pirie smelter will probably close over time due to the fact that the capital costs needed to keep it going outweighs the profits it can make.

As for the Liberal MP claiming its the carbon tax's fault..... the Libs I am sure will blame everything from Collingwood losing this years grand final (let's hope!) to this weeks Melbourne earthquake on the Carbon Tax.

Interesting that the Carbon Tax has been demonized so much by the Liberals who under Lib Leader John Howard installed these Levies & taxes on Australia:

    1. A 10% tax on everything (GST)
    2. A Gun Levy
    3. A East-Timor Levy buy putting up the Medicare Levy by 0.5%
    4. A Sugar Levy

And probably many others which I cant recall but are no doubt out there.

Seems to me that the Liberals/Labor are the same on new taxes, despite their rhetoric.
