Strange things happen this year, the 10 ounce Lunar 2016 Monkey coin is almost nowhere to get or sold out or way to expensive for a 2016 coin; I don't understand why; is there shortage on Silver or are there other reasons? I don't understand this development. Also the 10 ounce Kookaburra 2016 is not easy to get; better then the Lunar 2016, but not easy to. Are the limiting the mintage of these 10 oz coin for 2016? Also the 10 ounce Koala 2016 is not available, i have not seen it anywhere yet?
There is plenty of shops in Germany that have them http://www.gold.de/preisvergleich,34,Lunar-Serie-II.html
Perth Mint is flat out. A lot of their coin issues are being stopped early or delayed because they can't keep up with the production requirements. The lunar monkeys on the slightly more unusual sizes (2, 5 and 10oz) have been limited in their production and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the mintages are far lower than other years. Particularly as next year's lunar coin is released in about 8 weeks. Production for the Rooster must have either started or will any day now and no more monkeys will be produced. My suggestion is to grab them while you can if you can find "normal" prices. Worst case scenario is they do track spot plus premium. Best case is they do a mouse! malachii
completely agree with haackma. The 10 oz monkey was in and out of stock with one us dealer.when they had it the price was about $225,so about $22.50/oz when silver was $16 or so/oz.Seeing it in stock then out in a day or so,I finally bought one when it was available.I checked with 7 major dealers in the states and 6 never had it available so either someone is sitting on a pile of them or they will be a rarity in the series. The 2 oz is also difficult to obtain.
10oz Bullion Lunar Silver Monkey Coin 2016 - 4,266 (til 31-03-2016) 5oz Bullion Lunar Silver Monkey Coin 2016 - 11,678 (til 31-03-2016) 2oz Bullion Lunar Silver Monkey Coin 2016 - 10,414 (til 31-03-2016) It looks a little bit low but still not as rare as Mouse.
Those figures Flyinfree are absolutely pointless, they have no bearing on the declared coins and fwiw the 2016 lunar coins probably won't be declared until the first or second quarter of 2017. Also consider Perth's mintage policy for the Lunar coins. Mintages No mintage limit applies to 1 kilo, 10oz, 5oz, 2oz, and 1/2oz coins. Except for the 1 kilo release, production of these coins will close at the end of 2016 and The Perth Mint will declare each coin's official mintage. Production of 1 kilo coins will cease at the end of the series. http://www.perthmintbullion.com/bullion-brochure/BULLION-BROCHURES-LUNAR-MONKEY-2016.pdf
