Now I have got my flame suit on already but i'm really not understanding whichever government it was to make the Newstart payments so low......I totally understand people need to work but its just ridiculous.....I have personally applied for 30 jobs in the last two weeks....the competition is fierce.....I've had some casual work but that's all it is....then Centrelink take your payments off you because you've been working.

We just got a $1000 power bill.....$250 cheaper than the winter bill but we still cannot afford it......How do the gov expect un employed people to pay these prices?

My missus and I are actually discussing wether to separate temporarily or not because we would both be better off end of each week......Child care payments are actually not that much either. I want to move in with my mum for 12 months.

What I want to know is was it Labor that came up with this bright idea of screwing everything down so hard and making life extremely difficult for everyone?

Perhaps some people make an effort to use less electricity.
My power bill (house hold of 2) usually comes in between $240-280 and gas $220-230 (per quarter).
Perhaps you could review your usage?

Ok, first up $1000.00 power bill? Mine is about $250, suggestion turn off the air on or heaters or pool pump or whatever you are using. Open the windows and turn on a fan.

I will leave it there I am sure others will comment on the rest.

I have to ask was that a serious post or are you pulling the p&ss?

Edit BB you beat me to it.....

Mate I've fitted the led light bulbs (and got yelled at for wasting money!) and we try to switch everything off when possible......It does get very cold in winter and we only have oil heaters because nat gas was too expensive. :/

    Summer should be much cheaper.

Looking for someone to blame ?

Maybe you need to get better at looking for work.

I have never had a problem getting work no matter what the job was. Landscaping, painting, computers, call centre, door to door salesmen, farming, engineering. Doesn't matter.

If an employer can see you are keen you will get a job. Try offering a day or 2 free labour and work your ass off. The employer will see that you are actually useful to him.

It's really not hard to get a job. Calling job ads from the paper or emailing your resume is NOT how to get a job.

Have you ever had yourself medically tested for lead poisoning from your days as a diesel mechanic?

Oil heaters are much more expensive to run than natural gas heaters.

Labor changed it and the libs probably will too.
Mate, there are always jobs for diesel mechanics out here, most work is on tractors farm machinery etc etc, always ads in the local paper.
If you are prepared to make the move no shortage of work out here, shit I can even teach you how to milk cows to supplement your income.

I would love to have the option of opting out of our inefficient society. I would be more than happy to wave any rights to any government payments in exchange for not paying any taxes.

As far as there not being work out there for you and not being able to afford anything well if your (18 - 25) then I feel for you and agree the system is not in your favor, if your (26 - 35) then you only have yourself to blame and if your over 35 then you seriously need to review your life decisions.

I started working park time at 13 and then full time at 18 and have not stopped since, have always saved for a rainy day and have always invested in long term cost saving measures. There are always going to be rainy days ahead so you make hay while the sun shines and put something away for that day when you need it.
