Best online stock broker? Any offering good deals currently on first stocks bought with them? I'm relatively new still to all this and someone just asked me for advice on their first stock purchase today.

I pay $19.95 per trade. You get 2days to pay. Easy app collated with my regular banking accounts. If you Bank with commonwealth. They have tutorials & recommendations to start you off but I use hotcopper & my own DD.

They reduced their price a a month or two ago to $9.95 I think Gaz if your trade is under $1,000. Normally $29.95 if you have a normal account or $19.95 id you have a CDIA account like yours. I think its just the regular price if over the mark.
I haven't made a trade in a few months so have no first hand experience.

"open a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA) with CommSec to save at least $10 on every trade"

I copied that from their site. Would you recommend opening this account with them?

It is one of the most straight forward and useable platforms. I would recommend them as well

Whoever you Bank with will have an equivalent. I can't say which one is better than the next, just that I Bank commonwealth using netbank & it's all very easy.

^^ I hadn't noticed Stewy, so they reduced sub $1k transaction costs? Good.

I have been with commsec for many years, but i'm not that happy with their customer service recently and their $19.95 (for 1 to 10K trades) just isn't competitive, particularly for day trades. So i'm looking to diversify.

    Others (much cheaper):
IG markets: is $8/trade (can get RealTimePro software for free if you trade 4? (i think) times a month)
    Saxo Markets Australia: $9.90/trade
    CMC Markets: from $9.90/trade
    OpenMarkets: $13.95/trade
Capital19: min. $15/trade, but has single universal account to trade markets around the world.

Has anyone got good/bad experiences with any of these?
Does anyone trade US stocks, if so through which online broker?

    Thanks

I'm using selfwealth.com.au at the moment. $9.50 flat rate trades. They have a referral offer of 10 free trades. Happy to supply a code if anyone wants.

Don't use Commsec - they're at the mercy of their own dark pools and hardly impartial on trades.

Belldirect.com.au $15/trade streaming live data $27.50/month or free with every 2 trades... bargain.
