    Hi,

Is there such a thing as a "preferred" video card for mining cryptos? And I don't want to buy a high-end, but an affordable card.

I know the combination of characteristics gives the end result, but there could still be some characteristics that are more important than others.

    nVidia or Radeon is better?

    Which GPUs would you recommend?

GDDR3 or GDDR5? Does it matter that much?

    Is video RAM important?

    ...anything else?

...I'm asking all these, because I don't know what actually is important of best performance in mining. I guess I should pick a card specifically for mining.

Thanks in advance for any good advice... ;)

    7950, 7970, 280X, 270X, 7870, 7850, 7790, 7770, 7750 - depends on price and availability

Video RAM is important for some altcoins

For instance Memorycoin requires 1GB of memory use, and the only cards that are supported therefore have 2GB of VRAM or more

What would you do if you buy a card, and then soon afterwards the altcoin bubble bursts?

depends on how many cards you want to use as well , all that needs to be taking into consideration

I found multiple cards, Gigiabyte 7950 was the best bang for buck, I had 5 running on a 1200 PSU cause the voltage bios can be flash, giving you cooler temps, less power, while maintaining its hash.

I'm selling the last of my rig if anyone is interested, i'm throwing several parts of it on ebay tonight
pm if interested and will tell you what i got.

I have spent the weekend building my mining farm and I bought some PC's with multiple configs to see what was going to work best

I would say the R9 290 or the R9 280x are the best bang for your buck the 280 is slightly ahead but I like the blower cooler on the reference 290's

I will be buyig them for the rest of my farm.

I guess it's costly and complicated, I might give up on ever trying this...

Got in early with a solo mine of Maxcoin and sold early when price was ridiculous.

    *BTW* Maxcoin is still the most profitable coin to mine so get in quick :) would recommend;
http://max.1gh.com/ and http://dwarfpool.com/ <- I have no affiliation with either pools or Maxcoin.
For selling Maxcoin https://mcxnow.com <- no affiliation either.

Forgot to mention that you need the keccak (sha3) version of cgminer (ATI) or cudaminer (Nvidia) for GPU mining Max.
Hope the above makes you guys some quick BTC.

Yeah it's certainly harder than it looks, i have a programmers background and have been using computers for 20+ years so could adapt pretty quickly, though i would imagine its a steep a learning curve for the non programmer / not so experienced user.

That being said it's like anything, if your prepared to put the hours in learning then it's only going to get easier. Hope you like long nights and hot coffee :)
