From memory, and I could be wrong, it is a copy of the statue at the Australian/American Memorial in Canberra. Anyone from Canberra to confirm/refute this? Oops GP beat me to it.
Damn, gave the Perth Mint credit for subtlety in symbolism, still a nice coin and legal tender to boot.
I would expect nothing less from the Perth Mint! I was more interested in the Monster box of 1/2 oz coins than the news that they had managed to make a plastic tube, even though it is the same size for 1/2oz coins as it is for 1 oz coins. If that was such an issue all they had to do was make the 1oz coins twice the thickness of the 1/2 oz coins and hey presto, one size tube fits all. Actually a standard diameter would make stacking a lot easier across the board.
This is the open tube - the "inner" tube can be left out of the molding to make it a standard 1oz tube for future releases should the mint do anything in that size.
Thanks for the close up, does the inner sleeve slide out or is it glued in? Looks like you will be stacking air in the 1/2oz size. It will take as much room to store 12.5 oz in 1/2 oz coins as it does to store 25oz in 1oz coins. Not dissing the tubes, they are a nice idea but I have enough trouble finding space inside my safe without storing air.
It's a one piece molded design. Idea is to have the same dimension box for 1/2oz and 1oz coins in the future. The externals of the 1oz tube (which are not being produced for anything at the moment) match the 1/2oz tube - the only difference is that the 1/2oz tube has the integral "carrier" molded in place to hold the smaller diameter 1/2oz coins.
Will these be available in smaller quantities? Can't afford that many but would like to have some for sure.
Australian distributors are only permitted to sell these within Australia - a US distributor has exclusive distribution rights to the US.
Thanks, I am new to some of this, still have much to learn. Guessing it will show up here when it becomes available, I will be watching!
