It also depends on the seller. Generally - I see lower premiums on bars than on coins.

And I think buyers are more inclined towards buying a bar "locked" in a case.

Coins can be very nice and beautiful, but with no protective packaging just the writing on them "pure gold", it's harder to re-sell.

The packages itself (some have holograms, codes etc.) serves as an additional "security feature". And I think Perth Mint, PAMP have some of the best certifying packages. Heraeus' packages look rather weak, sensitive.

...but then, of course... there are near perfect fakes.

I prefere kilo's but 1/10 ozs are more within my budget.

    We were talking gold.

You're either very rich or referring to silver.

I have fallen in love with 50 Peso's. Even better my Wife like the reverse. I like it for low premium, beautiful art and it is more than an OZ, making it compactly portable. -bw

    Mostly 0.2354 ounce coins.

I really like the half oz $10 gold eagles though, they feel nice and weighty and I reckon a small pile would make a great sound when you stack them.

fractional gold is more expensive per oz. than when you purchase one ounce sizes. are you men buying the smaller coins or bars for a quick turnover sale?

I own no Au -- yet?

If/when I do, will only be coins. Modern at first, but could foresee eventually throwing in some older ones with odd weights.

For me, it's a struggle between diameter versus nominal price. I'm no high-roller, but I also want sufficient surface area to enjoy the designs with the naked eye.

I think a good compromise is around the 1/4- to 1/2-oz range, probably towards the latter.

Of course, once that happens, the lure of the 1-oz'ers will be too strong to resist.. Though I'm sure my wallet will put up a good fight.

^^ is main reason.... It's fun to grab em now and again... I got oz's but 1/4 I just like the feel of size... Easy to get 8-9-10 different countries....with out being total life savings into it if they were all full oz.... Btw if I buy a kg gold bar I save more as if I buy per oz
But sometimes just saving is no fun and I like the lil impulse buy of 1/4 with out blowing my load....
There must be a market for those 1-2.5g if they are making em no?..... And... And .... I've always have got my money back or full value of trade.... If I pay $20more I get at least extra $20 back +spot.... It all goes around
