Just having a few ounces silver and gold will mean you will hold far more than the average person on the street. The majority of currency invested in precious metals is still poured into ETF's and various other paper forms of precious metals investment... Only a relatively small number of people globally actually own physical metal outside of jewellery. Certainly when compared to the amount of currency invested in stocks, binds and property. It really is inappropriate to ask members how much they have stacked, nothing is safe in this world least of all information on the internet... but people on this forum come from all walks of life. Some just put in a few bucks when they can. Others have sold property, re-structured super annuation schemes and gone all in. Only you can work out what you are prepared to do, how much you are willing to sacrifice and how much you think is enough...

Hallo, hoe gaat het met je K22,

I will try put this into a realistic perspective.

Ten or twenty ounces is a hobby.
Several hundred ounces is emergency savings.
Several thousand ounces is a small investment.
Several tens of thousands of ounces is an investment.
Tons of silver....well that is beyond most of us so I will call this ....the dream.

several hundred ounces in emergency savings ? $17000 + as emergency savings what sort of disposable income do you have where $17000 is emergency savings ?

5% of my income goes to silver I feel thats a decent savings plan

It's not how much you earn, it's how much you save. ;)

I definitely think so. Out for the 100's of people I know there would be 3 others that have over 1oz 999 bullion.

My dad, cuz i talked him into buying some. My Girlfriend, because I gave her a 1oz poured heart from Sa_bogan(thanks again!) and my mate that sort of caught silver fever from me when i showed him some bars i had. so i think anyone that has any silver is really above the 'average' when it comes to stacking.

I would consider a 'stack' a decent stack when it has a few coins and a few bars of any kind and size. =)

$100,000 of silver @ $23/oz = 135 kgs or there abouts. Well I guess if you cant stack 135kgs then it could be an incentive to lose some weight down to your stack size!

This phenomenon of some people wanting to expose and compare their stack with other's is interesting. On YouTube, there's quite a number of videos that people have posted in which they show their (alleged) full stack.

I would never create such a video for this purpose. The only reason I took video of my very small collection is for the purpose of insurance and in the unlikely event of theft (after all, who would get past the moat and high voltage fence here?)

This morning I most definitely feel like Gollum (the limited Pirate Edition)! Do you find that it wears off after time, or do you still enjoy holding the bars?

Yes that's me, I've never seen a really big one though :p On a serious note, I feel that between you you've given an adequate answer and won't ask such questions in future. I think the earlier suggestion that many stackers aim for 1000oz is realistic.

Thanks very much. Everyone's been very warm and welcoming, the same cannot be said for other forums I've joined (and abandoned).

Indeed, it was a great price; he was desperate and I took advantage. Such a shame he didn't have any more!

This seems to sum it up quite nicely, though I'd expect nothing less from a Doctor...

    Thanks, K22

I don't think it's particularly unusual for people to brag about what they've got, I see/hear it every day. You need only walk down the street to see people in flash cars, wearing expensive clothing and nice watches, or buying completely unnecessary items just because they can. I'm sure many of them do it only for purely personal reasons, but a large majority do it so others say "wow, look at that guy". It's human nature.

Whilst I appreciate that with PM's you need to keep privacy in mind, many people are driven by the need for the admiration and will disregard that aspect to get what they need.

    Just a thought, K22
