I sort of like the Kangaroo & Emu.. Just not the price. And I could do without the packaging. :/ Nice in person, though?
Thanks, good to hear! I have only one other RAM coin.. 2014 Kangaroo of the Explorers' First Sighting series. Aside from the cool design, I think they did a really nice job with the quality. Might have to pick up a couple Road Signs one of these days, if budget allows. Just hate to pay these prices.
Imo the RAM are expensive and I generally don't consider their products. I'm also not into numismatic themes though ie warships/animals/warriors etc
Understand that the 2015 road sign Emu is the last of the series, so only a three years series. They are expensive, but i think they will go up more, they look very nice, i would like to buy a 1 kilo but way too expensive for me..
I'm sensing a trend, here.. Yet I've found oftentimes it's well worth it up pay up for something nice that you like. This might not hold true for everybody, and even then, only to certain degrees.. But there's more to it than always just stacking for weight/spot. RAM's got some good stuff.. Great designs, nice quality, cool minting techniques. They know it, and they ain't gonna give it away cheap..
very nice series. 5 years, so two other coins to come. low mintage, 5oz is very nice size. kangaroo 5oz 800 sold, koala 5oz only 400 sold. i like the RAM coins even if they are expensive. never seen milkspots on ram coins
Have heard that the 2015 road sign Emu is the third and last of the series, so the last two years don't come out.
the series was planed as a five year series. as there are not so much animals i am sure that all animals were selected in 2013. until there is no official announcment i see no reason why they should cancel it. the usally do not play games with collectors as the perth mint is doing. i decided to collect 5 x 5oz and you can be sure that RAM will deliver !
Wow, didn't realize the final mintages for the 5-oz were that low! I'm guessing pricing played at least a part in that. Haven't checked yet, but I suspect the 1-oz versions maybe came closer to their max? Good to hear about the lack of milk-spots. I, too, have read that the Emu is the final one. Low final mintages (i.e., lack of interest) might be the reason why they're cutting it back from 5 years to 3?
Yep, sounding like lack of interest. Bummer. Link? Directly from the source.. "The third and final coin from the Australian Road Sign Series..." https://eshop.ramint.gov.au/2015-1-1oz-Silver-Frunc-Emu-Coin/510625.aspx
thats really dissapointing they reduced it to 3 years now. lack of interest ? these are great coins but compared the the POS the are much to overpriced. thats the reason behind their low sales numbers, its the same as with their roos. they ask the same price for a roo as the did in 2012 with a x2 POS. in consequence of this the sales are going down and down. however in long term the roadsign with their super low salesnumber could be worth to buy from secondary market. get your fingers on each you are able to
From the link above, do I understand it correctly, that only the 1 kg silver, 5 oz & 1kg gold are "Made to Order" coins? This would mean that for example the kangaroo 1kg silver only 53 pieces have been made (source annual reports: 46 pieces in the year 2013 and 7 pieces in 2014). For 5 oz gold kangaroo only 3 pieces exist and no 1kg gold. That would be really rare. What about the Non-"Made to Order" versions (1 oz silver & gold, 5 oz silver)? Did they produce the maximum mintage? I don't know the RAM policy but if it is true that they don't produce older coins anymore then this series will be very interesting. I love the motives.
