In terms of physical pm's, what do you consider as a long term period for holding silver?

As I am relatively new to stacking (less than a single year) my notion of long term may be very different than those who have been stacking for a long time or those who started before their mid 40's (age).

I view long term as at least 15 years minimum.

Short term is no more than 18 months max. Mid term is of course between 18 months and 15 years....in my view.

    Your opinion please?

Long term for me is 5 years minimum. I came into pms with a 5-10 year time frame in mind. Ive been stacking for about 2.5 yrs and am in my early 30s. If I have to Im okay waiting up to 20 years to sell but ideally Ill be out or at least mostly out of metals within 10 years.

Long term imo is a time period related to an investors projected outcomes which are relative to his "life" goals.

Long term varies due to a person's physical and mental fitness, their age, life-style and experience.

Too many people focus on the words short, medium and long term.

Focus on "your" life-plan and you'll do ok. :)

As long as it takes for me to swap my stack for a house, without having to have a mortgage.
If that takes 20-30 years well so be it, it's still better than being a slave to the bank.
Not that I think it will take that long ;)

I think in Economics we learnt more than 1 year = long term
Seems short but in the world of obsolescence, 3/4 term politicians and the dancers in the Ben Bernanke bull/bear Ballroom I think it sounds about right.
Most people have a short-term view of the world, which is why I invest in silver, because I consider a long-term view a comparitive advantage and the reason silver is priced the way it currently is.
Watching/reading too much sci-fi makes me paranoid we'll just mine the sh!t out of passing asteroids in 20 years or so then the price will plummet.

If you had/have a mortgage it would take approx. 25 years to appreciate while you pay at least 200,000 in interest to the bank.....With pms, money can be made within 10 years maybe even 3 the way things are going?

longterm for PMs has to be at least 5 years.

If it gets to 2015 and prices are where they are now then I'm outta the game for good.

Would be nice to see prices rising after 4/5 years.

Otherwise I'm just gonna leave the PMs for my kids' college funds, which will be in 20 years or so.

I didn't hear the most obvious.

Long term means that You would need to rent scuba gear to locate the boating accident site.

    IMO long term has levels

    3-5yr
    5-10yr
10 to, I'm passing this on to the next generation
