I would very much like to know in various countries what extras ( i.e. taxes ) you pay ( if any ) at point of sale when buying silver bullion coins.

Using APMEX as a benchmark buying a roll of 25 x 1 oz Maples 2011 at the time of posting this memo -

    Silver spot USD 37.10
    APMEX quote USD 42.04

    Ignoring shipping -

In the UK the tax payable is 20% of the value. We call this VAT.
In Germany and many other EU countries the equivalent tax is only 7%

What do you add in the USA ( i.e do you pay sales tax and is it different in various states for silver ? )
Is the APMEX price you pay plus shipping ?

    How about Australia ?
Do you pay import duty and a sales tax ?
Do you pay a tax buying Perth Mint bullion ?

Hope to get some idea of the true buying prices around the globe above spot.

I bought a roll of 2011 ASEs from Gainesville last month. I just used nab (National Australia Bank) international funds transfer to pay.

USD757 for the tube (USD3.80 over spot each)
    USD80 for shipping
    AUD22 for the international transfer

    Nothing from Customs or UPS.

Importing under $1000 we don't get hit with any taxes.

2 months ago, I went straight to bullionbourse and ordered / paid for a roll of 2011 ASEs. Worked out $680 + 15 shipping. Spot was around 30 back then.

Seems like some of the Aussie dealers are quite competitive when you add in shipping and transfer costs.

@Slam. Yeah, I looked on Bullionbourse shortly after I ordered from Gainesville. I could have saved myself $16 buying locally.

My Grizzlys have been ordered from Bullionbourse.

International Paypal fees are sometimes cheaper than the credit card fees and the international conversion rate they give you. (crap rate)

If anyone is even in Austria, buy Philharmonics in large volumes! The VAT in Austria is 20%, and that is included in the purchase price - but when you leave, you get a full refund of the VAT, which brings the cost of the coin down to almost spot :) I picked up a pile at 28 EUR, and after the refund they were 23.4 (spot at the time was about 22.5 EUR)
