http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydneys-next-big-thing--and-its-bigger-than-the-bridge-20120404-1wbwk.html For some reason I'm very skeptical with this
Are you sceptical that it won't go ahead? Or something else? I think its fantastic that a growth area, lacking in public transport, forcing residents to use the privately owned toll motorway and neglected by a state Labor government for the last 20 years, is finally going to get some train transport. Residents have been crying out for this train link for years and it always broken promises by Labor, not to mention $500m down the gurgler when they commissioned a "metro" study and then dumped the idea. Sure it will cost a lot, but it's more than Labor ever did when they were in power and throwing money to the wind.
Completely agree it's a fantastic project, and much needed! Just not sure about the delivery, as you've mentioned, there has been too many projects canned half-way lately.. wasted tax payer money on the 'studies/scoping' :|
I would presume your alluding to the Hard Labour mob that the NSW electorate showed the door? All those years of GST income pissed up against the wall. When you look at how Jeff Kennett was able to restore Victoria's balance sheet after the Cain/Kirner pokadot disaster and the subsequent decay of Victoria's finances under the Bracks/Brumbie rule...People have short memories. Poor Queensland has 88 BILION in state debt... and by the time Joolia and the numbskulls are done another 300 Billion in debt. Return on divestment Australia wide..... a cool half a trillion dollars in the red. Kind Regards non recourse
This time, i find it much more likely that O'Farrell will get the job done. The North West rail link was one of his principal election promises. To back away will be a massive mistake on his behalf. Labor was never serious about building the damn thing as there was no electoral benefit in it for them. Hence why Juliar also wouldn't release funding from the Epping-Parramatta link to the North West rail link. Out of spite for the Liberal voting North West residents.
