I've never understood why they don't use the changing annual design on the BU Platinum Eagles. I still like them, but I wish they'd bring back the fractional sizes for both Proof and BU, especially since platinum got so cheap and below gold of late.
The design does change every year for the proof version. Changing design would be nicer on the BU coin but then look at the BU ASE and AGE....no annual design change either. 2016 is the first year in a while that the US Mint released both a proof and BU APE from what I understand. Who knows if that will be the trend or not for the US Mint going forward.....perhaps sales will be the determining factor. The proof APE certainly seems to be very popular....only time will tell if the BU APE will do well. I'd be surprised if it didn't....considering that platinum appears to be a good buy now being that it historically is more costly than gold. .
Sales of 18,000 platinum Eagles in 2 days....wow! http://news.coinupdate.com/2016-platinum-eagle-bullion-coins-top-18000-sales-in-two-days/ .
Nearing sell out.... http://www.coinworld.com/news/preci...ign=cw_editorial_precious-metals&utm_content= .
It could be because of this sort of trend that investors are gobbling up Platinum Eagles in 2016..... http://seekingalpha.com/article/3998191-palladium-platinum-shine-asia .
