I had a thought as I woke up this morning.

The coming fiscal cliff fiasco in the US probably won't be solved by congress until the last minute before Dec 31st. But there will be lots of traders going on holiday before then.

Is it possible that we will see a big sell off of stocks and possibly PM's in December? Because if it looks like there will be no agreement on the budget, the resulting tax hike will force traders to sell to lock in profit before the tax rate goes up, and right now gold and silver are the best performers of the year.

So from a paper traders point of view, why not sell and make a small profit when the tax is lower and then buy again after new years and go long?
