"Currently, the primary supplier of silver bullion blanks is the Coeur d'Alene Mint in Idaho with the First Mint of Australia as back-up." Kitco news called us "goldmark", now it is First Mint. WTF. Our marketing guys must be feeling really bad - all their branding work is wasted as no one can get our name right. This link http://financialservices.house.gov/Hearings/hearingDetails.aspx?NewsID=1836 has a webcast of the hearing as well as written submissions from: Ms. Beth Deisher, Editor, Coin World Magazine Mr. Terence Hanlon, President, Dillon Gage Metals Division Mr. Ross Hansen, Founder, Northwest Territorial Mint Mr. Raymond Nessim, Chief Executive Officer, Manfra, Tordella & Brookes, Inc.
What has gotten into those americans?? It's called capitalism! - you created it, and now the rest of the world suffers from your mishandling of the idea.
What fails to be mentioned is that at one time it was a requirement (or at least thought to be) for all of the silver blanks for the American Eagle coins to come from domestic silver and providers. I am not sure what ever happened to that requirement/regulation. My guess though, is that a lot of people are still under the impression that it is in effect. When the U.S. Mint had to make budget cuts a couple decades ago, maybe that requirement was lifted. Just my guess, but I wouldn't take personal offense to it. Whether the blanks came from Australia or Japan or any other country, I think these people would still be upset because they thought all of the silver used for these coins was domestic. Admittedly, there is some confusion over the laws regarding silver and gold for coin minting.
It is for gold, but the laws regarding silver are contradictory and vague, which has left the matter of sourcing open to interpretation. There was a bill proposed that would clearly allow sourcing of silver from any/all suppliers, but it wasn't signed into law. I don't think it is an outrage for people to expect their countries to mint coinage using domestic resources. And considering the state of our economy and job market, or lack thereof, I can see why these congressmen would want the blanks to come from domestic sources/suppliers.
Doesn't annual ASE production already outstrip annual US silver mining output though? Be careful what you wish for!
Are we sure on this information folks? The recent discussion with Mike Maloney and David Morgan seems to indicate otherwise... Commentary from 2:20 states specifically that ASE production has to be sourced by US domestic Silver according to local law. Seems we have some contradiction here, can we get clarification?
They don't seem to give a rats arse where their Oil comes from. If they decided to use only domestic oil, the world would be a better place.
Try http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-76809.html#p76809 Gold Eagles: Silver Eagles: Define available resources. Some interpret this as US production only.
Can you find it again? We have a direct link here with Mike, so this would be an excellent question for him to discuss in another clip for people who will be undoubtedly confused by what seems to be a direct contradiction.
