Declining participation rate can explain that.

    BS...JUST BS....One year or less unemployed = 6.7%.

Wonder what the number on food stamps is now?

How can any of the financial gurus tell how the economy is really going when Lunatics are giving out the stats?

    Regards Errol 43

You have a point...I read something this week that said food stamp recipients had sky rocketed since QE3 was initiated... I'm not sure where that data can be viewed but I agree that wall street tends to overlook this real indicator of economic conditions.

These latest figures really highlight how irrelevant employment figures are to QE tapering given the falling participation rate. MSM will have to spin this like a top to get the "oh look unemployment is falling *golf clap* let's all go out for some drive thru Ipads crowd" positive reaction.

I read in some areas (large areas not just suburbs) 40% of people are on "some form of food assistance program" which I assume means food stamps or a free meal program. There are a lot of people who can not afford to feed themselves by the look of it.

A lot more working poor who are employed but can not afford to feed, clothe and provide a place to live, medical insurance Aztec for their families. Saw an article about people who live in Walmart car parks. There are a huge number of people who sleep in their cars at Walmart.

    Crazy stuff.

Check out Shadow Stats for the truth.
Removing the unemployed from benefits is a 'new job'.
Going on to food stamps is a 'new job'.
    And it goes on.

I think even we down here have similar shadow stats (Work for the Dole participants; x hours per week/fortnight part-time/casual work that alone would not support you in the same way as a full time job usually would). =/

Only winner over there in this thread is Walmart; followed by the supermarket duopoly down here if the Aus Gov expands the local flavor of that program seen by the Aboriginal communities in the NT.
