Hello everyone! I'm new to all of this, I just have a question..... Why do all of the new pretty design coins have 'Tuvalu' written on the back and not 'Australia' considering it was made at the Perth mint? I've tried to investigate but could not find an answer Thank you
mints from around the world are contracted by countries that don't have the capability to produce coins. sometimes mints like the perth mint will sell blank coins and the countries stamp them. when I buy my private island, miniroo island, i'll commission my own series of coins too, the obverse will have me chucking a brown eye, bart simpson style and the reverse will be portraits of my brides.
can I have 2 please I thought PM only did the pig with lipstick range with foreign coins they minted ( not wanting to ruin their own reputation  ) And it's a long swim to cash them in at the bank
I have an anecdote re: this Tuvalu matter. I went to a coin dealer to buy the Zeus coin. I asked them if they thought it would be worth buying. He said "no it's crap. It will never go up in price because it has Tuvalu, not Australia on it". So some people seem to think coins minted with Tuvalu on the back wont be worth as much as "Australia" coins. In the end I think it just comes down to the rarity and popularity of the individual coin.
Yeah, I just see Tuvalu on almost everything I look at (newish coins). Was just wondering why they have all the fancy stuff.... I dunno, just wondering. Thank you for all of your replies
It's a lot easier to get permission from Tuvalu to mint thematic coins than to get them approved as Australian legal tender in a currency determination by the Treasurer. Some things just wouldn't get approved as Australian legal tender, but the licensing generates valuable foreign income for the generally Pacific micronation willing to put their country's name to a coin release.
Apparently they never know "red back spider"? any "Australia" morden coin can compete? And they do not know Mongulia coins are made in Europe for sure. Doubt they can make money as a dealer when they are short of vision. Must kick their butt often themselves...
Most exiting and valuable series in modern coin market are from Tuvalu, Cook Islands, Palau, Fiji and some other island... Alex.
Several major mints produce coins with country names on the coins other than the country the mint is located in. Two other prominent mints that come to mind are the Helvetic Mint and the New Zealand Mint. Both these mints produce some truly amazing, innovative, revolutionary, and low mintage collector coins many of which are made of silver or gold. On the right of this page you will find coins that you probably have seen being sold everywhere but you may just not have known which mint had produced them..... http://www.helvetic-mint.com/products/ .
