OK- unusual request for the week :)

I have to move a 1937 Austin 7 Ruby from Brisbane down to Melbourne. It does drive but I'm to chicken to drive it that far - it would probably make it but finding parts for it out in the middle of NSW would be far from entertaining!!

The wheelbase is too narrow to fit on a normal car transport option (base is only just over 1m wide) and it needs to be covered as its a "soft top" version.

ANY suggestions???? Anyone happen to be taking a covered tandem trailer from Brisbane to Melbourne (or there abouts) anytime over the next few weeks? Anyone know of a good company to move it?

    Try asking here:

    http://oldholden.com/

If you do ask there, keep tabs on your post, theres no categories it just will scale down with each new post until you're on the 2nd page etc.

Ask your local post office to see the going rate?

but in all seriouseness brainstorm! moving a very small car? contact local moving companys, i seen one of those P.O.D.S. (portable on demand storage) down the street i think you could be able to hire the container like thing, they drop it off at your house and pick it up and send it where you want

That would be a pretty cool drive in a 37' Austin. Go on take a chance.
You might not get the opportunity again.

    Doesn't happen anymore .
The only thing I can think of is drive it to a transport depot
Strap a pallet underneath her & get a backload to a Melbourne depot
Forklift on & of the truck ;)

When did they stop that, my father did that a few years back, sent a Bash car back from QLD, was not overly cheap, but not excessive either

Seriously ask an automotive forum even as a Guest as they'll give you examples of transport companies worthwhile of your business and those to avoid. Do a google search you may even find a dedicated Austin forum. You never know.

I'd take truck over a train any day. Heard way too many horror stories with trains. I've put 4 cars on trucks and never had a problem. The price is right too.

I imagine your predicament will just come down to how much you are willing to spend.

If you want a sealed truck/trailer I would probably start asking around on the forums for people with race trailers. If you can find someone with one tall enough and with a need to make the trip down to Melbourne (for reasons other than taking their race car), they would probably do it for the fuel price.

Of course, you'd be trusting someone you don't know from a bar of soap, but if your lucky it will be someone well known within a club that can help you out.

In SA we have the Sporting Car Club SA that I'm sure you would have a local alternative of - they could possibly help you out.
