Hi Am thinking of doing the switch and moving across the ditch. Will moving my PM stack there be simple or hard? Can I just rock up to the airport with a really heavy bag? I would seriously look at converting to all gold if it would make the transfer easier. Are the any import issues? What about when it comes time to sell? Do I have to pay CGT? If so to which country? Is it better to employ a freight company and insure then to try walk on the plane with the few oz of au I have?

Sorry I seem very vague and that there are so many Qs?
    Thanks in Advance :)

P.s. No my name is not Gaddaffi :p

    Kiwiland?

Their taxes on PMs are the same as ours (no GST) and as far as I know there are no import restrictions. I'd get in contact with a customs broker and I'd also check with NZ Immigration - http://www.movetonz.org/

Convert it all to 1966 50's? Put it in ur carry on luggage? Actually that would only work for 5ish Kg x 0.8 = 4ish Kilos.

I've wondered the same thing, as I'm contemplating crossing the ditch in the other direction. The only thing I would suggest if you're carrying a large quantity of PMs is perhaps take photocopies of any purchase receipts so there's no question over money laundering.

if you have less than 10k you dont have to declare it, at least in cash anyway.

there was a thread on this some time ago.

best just to declare any amount over face value of 10k as I understand

if it is a decent size stack you may want to declare it anyway

probably better to go (mostly or all) gold if it is going to weigh a lot

What if you were carrying $50,000 worth of 1oz rounds with no face value? Would you declare them anyway?

    That's 10k each person.
So ask the people you are traveling with to carry some for you and you should be right.
Unless you got more than 10k each.
