And apparently 75% of snake bites in Australia are associated with alcohol intoxication as well.

I'm not sure that would neccasarilly be the case. The whole point of decriminalising would be regulation and quality control.... no more people shooting up heroin cut with cement.

Oh yeah and another thing is penalty for doing a crime on drugs (or alcohol for that matter), should equal or more severe then if not on drugs. Nothing pisses me off more then reduced sentences because of bad decision making on behalf of the perp

Strong evidence around that cocaine traffic from the cartels and their billions is what caused the GFC. Wachovia bank was the money laundering operation and when they flipped for the feds, the cartels ganged up and withdrew all their billions and hence sank wachovia which in turn sank Lehmans.

CIA has been hand in hand with drug trading since Vietnam and lately in Afghanistan.

If i want to buy marijuana I go to the same people that sell heroin and speed and all the other rubbish that the gangs are pushing. Drug laws are ridiculous. Spend 10 percent of the amount on education and 10 percent on medical solutions and it would do more than all fo this 'drug war'.

Decriminalisation does nothing much. Make it legal to own and grow and punish crimes that have victims.

The drug war means corruption and organised crime for everyone. It's just politics.

I can't understand this either. It gives the message to the crims, get off your face on drugs and we'll go easy on ya

    One step too far.

It should be equal. Not greater.

Why should someone get a harsher penalty for raping someone after shooting up than raping someone sober...?

Have you or your family personally experienced the criminal system and sentencing proceedures?

There are alot of urban myths out there. The sentencing precedents are not a Judges whim but based on a volume of sentencing precedent that develops over time in line with the community expectations just like common law precedent.

If you want to legalise drugs, research 'bath salts' and see if it changes your mind. Big in Russia but plenty of good written descriptions of its' societal effects from within the US.

I would think it has achieved even more than it set out to do.

I deal with the CJS everyday in my job, and that is certainly not the experience I have had.

If you are a good person, you get a harsh sentence as you should know better.

If you are a minority or career criminal, you get a slap on the wrist as it was not your fault.

IMO - Burgal someones house, you should do jail time. Instead people are getting time for 2.5 grams of ice on them... Wrong way round.

Legalise the lot, from Heroin,Pot all the way to Cocaine and sell them thru Government run agencies with a Users registrar.
Take the money saved and get some Cops back doing what they are supposed to be doing, guarding our Public safety.
War on Narcotics is a misleading title. Its a war on people and most of them low level end users.

I used to believe that if the government regulated drugs they would be safer as they would be made in cleaner environments without bad chemicals and additives to make greater profit.

    Then I woke up.
