    ...My salted 20c piece to confirm that the unit worked and some lolly wrappers in the playground.
    I found that the ground beneath all the monkey bars in my area is covered with soft fall rubber (kids these days are soft) and my attention span for detecting, like panning and fishing, is extremely small.
    But did buy myself a nice trowel.

    Look for the softest grass areas if you've done under the equipment - this is where people are most likely to sit and watch their kids, and drop stuff from pockets. I note that the greenest, healthiest grass usually has a few coins in it.

    8 nuggets for 1.5 grams plus a small naturally facetted nugget sitting on a piece of quartz. Biggest nugget 0.4. And a pocket full of various nails, bullets, pellets, rusty blobs of crap etc.

    Plenty of friggen gorse bushes that I had to burrow around amongst...oww...owww...oww...but worth it. :)

    Looks relatively modern design - mid 20th century at least. Definitely a relic, can be discussed :)

    I have no idea other than it appears to be a revolver , on one side you can make out the cylinder flutes, it does seem to be a compact type but it is so corroded It would be hard to identify. I did find it in a location that has a very rich history , I do agree with GP that it is probably not more than 100 or so years old. I actually found this hiking on an old trail with some friends , about 1/4 " of the butt was exposed and I always keep an eye out for something out of place , so I dug it up and walla. It was cool because some of the people I was with were friends of friends from NYC and they just couldn't believe it , it made their trip!

    so technically I was not detecting but I thought i would share it anyway.

    I have an old cannon ball sitting on my mantle above the fire place, Found it in the Derwent River in 1983 while spear fishing. Also know where there is still an anchor from a tall ship wedged between some rocks laying on the bottom, been wondering for years what to do about it. Get it, leave it or tell the maritime museum about it? Most probably show my son then take the knowledge its there to the grave.

    Today my mate found while detecting....

    Sitting on the side of a bush track on the surface. I had parked about 10m from it and he saw it when he was putting his harness on. Didnt even have his detector switched on.

    Marked 925 and weighs 42grams. Also has makers marks of a picture of a Star, "1805" and the letters "AR".

    I found a nugget est. about 0.75grams so he didnt have all the fun. :)

    I think this place had some battle , the middle of nowhere but this stuff all over and every rock outcrop and old tree shot to hell.

    I went out this arvo for 3 hours. Got a huge pocketfull of bullets, nails, tacks, bits of cans etc.

    1 very small nugget and a 1911 half penny for my efforts. :)

    Anybody else been out scrounging this weekend? Dont forget to post how you went.
