1968 5c, apparently reasonably rare/collectible? http://www.australian-threepence.co...imal-coins-part-one-rare-coins-in-change.html [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/1403_571736799_tp.jpg][/imgz] [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/1403_571736792_tp.jpg][/imgz]
Using an old McDonalds (2010) as reference, the value of an Uncirculated 1968 5cent coin would be about $8.00. The coin you have at a guess would be about F-VF condition so worth a couple of dollars at best. Still, it's worth a bit more than the 5cent face value.
thought an ongoing thread would be good to share with the numi gurus in future, I also foumd a 1999 1/4 from the USA mascerading as a 10c
So far the 'funnies' include an EnZedd 5c nickel coin, a Fiji 5c and a canadian 10c (the one with a ship).
Woo hoo! Lunch is on hiho! I keep looking amongst the NZ 20c pieces that i keep getting for the Aussie 20c piece with the curve along the bottom of the 2. If you lot find one put it back into circulation for me, i've been looking for ages and i feel guilty if i spend one before checking. I'm also waiting for some smarty seller to refuse my NZ coins that i have received when i put them back into circulation. Not sure what my response would be so i just turn them over.
Hey Naphthalene Man, quit spending your NZ 20c in my coffe shop! We get plenty of Fiji 50 cents, NZ 20 cents and $1, US quarters and Philipine money. We also get Mint Marked Non Circulating Leagal Tender (NCLT) and we used to have a guy who brough in silver coins for trade, mostly old money but occassionally round 50s. Not that we mind, I am getting a good collection of NZ coins. What do I need to look out for before I spend them..?
Depends where you are spending them - either a rise in the NZ dollar so you can claim a psychological victory knowing that you got them cheaper, or a fall in the NZ dollar knowing that your spending these cheaper coins instead of your more valuable Aussie 20c pieces.
what a week just quadrupled my money with this beauty [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/1403_imag0182.jpg][/imgz]
I got given about $20-$30 in foreign coins. Mostly NZ 20c peices. The guy who empties the parking slot money isnt going to be too happy
You might have to explain this one to me??? Does this mean that I am sitting on a potential silver mine???
I see them getting passed in on ebay auctions all the time .. I didnt think they were worth any more than 50c in circulated condition.
Have you ever seen uncirculated 1977 50s selling for $4 ?? I picked up a roll of those bad boys a while back - been wondering if I should break up (or leave them stashed a while longer).
I just got a cleaned 1950 and 1954 post shilling in my change when I went to the milk bar yesterday along with a heap on ten cent coins, not sure if any of the tens are keepers going to have to look them up, they are all pretty old and some are still shiny That was pretty awesome, the lady didn't even realise they weren't 10 cent coins, I seen them before they were in my hands. So I'm pretty sure that was a score Also about 5-7 weeks ago I got a round 50 at the same shop this shop seems to get a lot of silver and good quality old coins, just imagine how much silver/rarities is passing through that shop.
The other day I found a 1968 20c piece in some change. Still hoping for a 2000 $1 mule one day ... now THAT would be sweet!
Are the owners elderly Greeks or Italians? They were into milk bars in a big way back in the 50s/60s. Or has the milk bar been there a long time, since the 50s? Come to think of it i'm surprised milk bars are still around.
