Great pics SilverPete! There's no doubt in my mind that the RM has put out an immensely popular and exceptionally aesthetically appealing design with the 2014 proof Britannia. Even the obverse with the Queen's effigy is the most 3-dimensional looking depiction of the Queen I have ever seen on a coin. "Most beautiful coin in the world"...ever? Maybe. For all of 2014? Probably. The 2014 proof Britannia is a reminder for me as to one of the benefits of being a SilverStacker member. Not only are there interesting discussions about precious metals functioning as a commodity and asset, but we have lots of very knowledgeable people in this community who are on top of breaking news for new collector coin and medal releases. Because of this the rest of the SS forum community can get the early jump on spectacular, low mintage coins like the 2014 proof Britannia...sometimes days, maybe even weeks before the general coin collecting population. As soon as I read the original thread ( http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-54588-new-2014-proof-britannia-is-an-absolute-beauty.html ) in this forum and saw how low the mintage of the 5 oz proof Britannia was, I ordered one that same day from the RM (my first direct RM order ever). Since I don't generally visit any other websites or forums which focus on coins except on occasion the www.china-mint.info/forum (I am not a numismatist, but I do have an admiration for Chinese medals), it's conceivable that I could have found out about this coin only months later when the coin was already sold out. Anyway, yes, spectacular coin! .
A beauty indeed SP, I've got the 1oz version as part of 6 coin set but the 5ozer is simply awesome thanks for the pics.
It could very well be. I've heard these are prone to spotting. I just pulled this one from my SDB and haven't checked it closely. I don't really mind since I got it at the issue price back when they were released, but imagine someone who bought a graded one for a large premium over the original price. They wouldn't be too happy I imagine. As you can see in one of the pics, I have a few backup 1oz versions just in case But the 5oz is still far nicer.
No kidding, this IS a sexy silver coin, I like. The presentation box also appears high quality totally unlike the cheap RCM wrapping...
best human figure I have ever seen on a coin. Not fond of the rest of the design though. Still brilliant overall.
