Are Australian coins with monetary value on them free of Capital Gains Tax? That platypus one is lovely. Curious when that was released. Any modern equivalent?
Collectible coins purchased for under $500 can be CGT free. Proof gold coins can be considered collectibles for this purpose. You'd be pushing your luck with the ATO if you tried it with regular bullion coins methinks.
Before i got it i was thinking "so yeah, its just a big sovereign." But in the hand it's a really, really nice coin. If you happen to find one up for grabs at a good price, definitely jump at it.
rbaggio do they have a layer over the top of them ? It looks like some small bubbles and a scratch on the obverse ?
Austacker there is no layer i can see, it came in a capsule. And yes there are minor scratches as you can see, the bloke i bought it off or someone before him must have been handling it. No bubbles or anything like that. I'm not too worried about scratches - if i can manage to pick up something of a limited mintage for bullion prices then happy days i reckon EDIT: i think what you can see as bubbles, are actually little tiny pieces of toilet paper. The 2 coins are photographed on top of a sheet of toilet paper ... I am all class, sorry ladies, i am already spoken for.
LOL cool, that would explain they look like little dust marks now I look at it. Agree about the price though well done
I only had one other before today. Apparently at one point there was a pyramid scheme in which most first time investors got precisely 9 of these as their first and only "payoff". So they usually present in quantities of 9 at a time. I do like them quite a bit. I'm enjoying most fractionals these days and the dip in price means they can be bought at reasonable prices esp with current exchange rate! Note that none of the gold is .999 I personally love the 4 ducat. Thats my second now and it is a very nice coin. I'd love to have a high stack of those.
I've got one four ducat - personally I don't like it compared to say the 100 corona because it's so thin - but a pile of them would be nice! Reckon you could fit about four of them in a single Lighthouse capsule. Kinda neat though that a ducat is 1/9th oz and a four ducat is 4/9th oz.
Silver prices are psychologically really hard for me to buy in at this point in time, so gold has become my preferred metal for the forseeable future. Some of what I have picked up since I last posted....... Well I did have enough for just one ounce of silver
Yep, hitting the same psychological barrier myself. I ask myself if I were just getting into PMs now, would I go silver or gold?
