I have read that the Suriname Map bullion coin was only minted in 2013. They no longer will be issued. I found this information here: http://agaunews.com/portfolio-items/suriname-map/ Makes me wonder what is going to happen to the price. Up or Down?
It's a bullion round that never really sold for a big premium on spot anyway, so it'll just follow the silver price with a possible premium for rarity later in the future. Bit of a sordid escapade if the rumours are to be believed. Talk of unpaid bills, the owners living the high life, and even of huge quantities of counterfeit British 1 coins being produced. I'm sure the truth will come out, but currently i heard they're still banged up in the Netherlands.
Got some more information on the alleged fraudsters and it's finally hit the mainstream media on the back of the 1 coin change. http://agaunews.com/?p=9994
Crazy story. No wonder they disappeared from the dealer sites. I never bought/considered these silver coins, they were a tad cheaper but the difference wasn't worth the noname-country/currency. I'm willing to pay that extra for a USD/Euro currency (albeit not ASE anymore, too high premium), or if I really like the design (alike the Armenia Arc of Noah DRAM), but this Suriname one hasn't its design compensating for its lack of 'big' currency.
