G'day, has anyone who uses the Silver Stacker Toolkit supplied by "Sticks" been having trouble with it? I cranked the PC up this morning and it wouldn't play the game. I saved the database file deleted the other 2 files and downloaded the latest 105 version and it still won't work, anyone got any ideas of how to fix it, regards Neil
Just had a look at it , you are right, Kitco have made changes to their source code again, So all figures have changed location. Easy fixed, go to Set up Page, check the Edit Kitco Import.Change the Line Number for Silver (First Number) to 540, Change Line Number for Gold to 530, Change Line number on MARKET OPEN/CLOSED to 514. Everything should then work again The program extracts the data from the source code of the web page, it downloads the web page but instead of going to a browser I dump the source code on to a notepad, then go to locations given by line numbers and how many spaces in and extract the required figures. So everytime they change their source code we have to adjust the location markers.
Thanks for the fix Sticks, that has fixed the main screen. I am still having a problem in that the purchases screen seems dead, ie it won't tally up the totals etc and won't send the info to the mainscreen. Also I keep on getting that "floating" decimal point error.
Sounds like you have posted an empty record full of zeros in your database. look for it and click on it to highlight a field in that line - then click on the [-] button on the database control block to delete that record. Then click the Green Calculate button, this should total all columns. Then Post Data to main screen. [Blue Button] Then exit program - This will create a New Init File with the correct data in it. (From you post I assumed you deleted this file.) Let me know if this fixes problem - If not I will look at it again. Im only guessing at moment.
See http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-4969-free-stack-calculator.html for download links. For clarity, it's not the "Silver Stacker Toolkit" - it's the "Sticks Stack Calc".
Hey Sticks, looks like they changed the numbers again last night, I went to the setup page and decided to scroll through the numbers until hey presto the prices were now on different numbers from yesterday's change. Great program thanks, regards Neil
Which page are you scraping data from? Bron just posted details of an RSS feed from the Perth Mint - for tracking purposes, it's probably sufficient (seeing as it's not a trading platform). The RSS format should remain pretty constant as well.
Hilo, if you download the link and install the program once you have done that there are 3 numbers in the setup page that need altering, the numbers which sticks posted yesterday changed again last night the numbers should now read Silver 534 gold 523 open 507 http://www.sticksplace.org/Dloads/Stacker105.exe
Program is set up to pull data of the Kitco - Live Update Page - I chose this page as it was the only one I could find that had everything on it. It has all Exchange Rates so program can be set up to run in other locations. It also has an information block that pulls down other data that I like to keep my eye on, USD Index, Oil Price, Dow Jones, Yen - these blocks can be set up by the user to pull down any information on the the kitco page that they might like to keep their eyes on. An RSS feed would be great, but for versatility I would need prices in USD and current exchange rates, plus the wealth of other data that is on the kitco page. I will check out that RSS feed, it could be very handy
Where does the open value go? Can Ive input the new gold and silver values but I assume I'm getting nothing because I haven't updated it
First, thanks to Sticks for this very useful tool. Second, where at Kitco do I find the numbers that keep changing?
The data is all extracted from Kitco Page - http://www.kitco.com/market/ The numbers that change are in the Program - Goto Setup Page and check the box at bottom of screen "Edit Kitco Imports" Click the 'Fetch" Button to load a copy of the Web Page source code. Look at the Silver line, there are 3 Numbers followed by a Edit Box, If the edit box is displaying the spot silver price you are on the right line. If the box is blank or filled with rubbish code you just incrementally increase or decrease the line number until it displays the spot silver price. The first number is the line Number in the source code that has the required data. The Second Number is the number of characters into that line that the required data starts. The Third number is the length (Number of character) that you want read. It looks complicated but its quite simple to use - Just play around with it a little till you see how it works
Thanks Sticks, that is just cool, simple really if you know what you're doing. Awesome tool, thanks again.
