Hey Ozi, Cased Kangaroos are proof Carded Kangaroos are Brilliant uncirculated. In some cases the carded specimens outfetch prices for the proof same year equivilant ... such is the demand for the carded series now days. an example of this is the 2008 Reg Mombassa designed Roo.. $160 for BUNC $80 for Proof... Go figure.. i have both and the proof is a bargain... also loving the cardeds... just dont love the waste of space (which is at a premium). Also worth noting proofs sell/sold for like $80 (rrp) whereas as currently BUncs are just $50 (*seems Bunc's are the smart buy?) *You will also want to know what Proof is vs Uncirculated in terms of production and finished product, mintages etc for a full spectrum understanding. 1for1
What? Where did you get those prices for the Reg Mombassa carded roo? Hmm, maybe this is how i could fund a dragon purchase...
Hi, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170677276684&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT --- track that to see a price indication currently. I have seen $180 fetched often. Just look at average prices on ebay for an indication (currenlty $160-203) .. the ones i look at trend upwards of $140 this yeat for BU, proof - i scored one for around $50 b4 postage on ebay this year.. SWEET Ken Done carded is fetching over $100 frequently also.. worth noting. Considering i got the done and mombassa's for $50 this year they are a better investment than pandas 1for1
I have noticed that there are 2 types of cased roos? Ones that say proof on the box and are in a capsule and others that are in a case but are not in a capsule? So they are still a proof even if they are not in a capsule? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1999-PRO...300584530014?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item45fc3bf05e http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1999-1-S...270623346455?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item3f02688f17
Proof coins usually have a mirrored background with frosted image. Uncirculated is the reverse to this, shiny image on frosted background. There are a few unc. coins that have been re-packaged in aftermarket cases being sold out there. If you learn how to tell the difference there shouldn't be a problem.
The 2007 and 2008 UNC Roos will carry the highest premium in this series that began in 1993 because only about 6,000-8,000 were produced in each of those 2 years, whereas the mintage for other years had been 30,000-70,000. I see the RAM has been limiting the later Roo years to a mintage of 20,000 but still the 07 and 08 have about a third of the current year mintages. Mintages you can see here http://www.silverbullionworld.com/kangaroo00s.html
Yes, carded Roos fetch more than the proof version, gilded/gold plated version and tend to fetch more than the bullion coin in a flip-top box. The 2007 Roo had 2 carded versions, 1 was on a blue card that was a "Downies" card and the other was a brown/rust colour card and I'm not sure on the background of that card. 2008 has the same card for all bullion coins.
Hi, the correct mintage of the 2008 and 2009 you can see an the "anual Reports" from the RAM. For the 2008 ones you have to scan the 2007,2008 and 2009 report. (they can be downloaded from their webside) I have counted them together, but do not have the correct number by hand here and now. What i remeber it was around 10.300 pcs of the 2008 UNC. Around 5000 carded ones and the rest in capsule only. The ones in capsule were sold mostly overseas. From australian dealers i was only able to find the carded ones. The ones in capsule i have never get offered. The mintage of the 2009 one is a bit more than 13000. The carded ones are between 6000-7000. Ill post the mintage if i am back home. ninteno If anbody is interested in carded 2008 ones i am open for swaps to other numismatic silver coins.
The RAM annual reports on mintages I have read before - never seem to add up to what the http://www.silverbullionworld.com/kangaroo00s.html website say? Perhaps there is a difference somewhere between the proposed mintage and the actual mintage ?
Here are the two carded 2007 versions I think the first is the rarer one. ( only from auctions on feebay )
