I view this - as I would any other offer. I am NOT saying whether this auction it legitimate or not - simply some points I personally consider when making a "buy or not" decision on items like this:

    (1) Is the price being asked fair and reasonable considering current spot price? (I note bidding started at $0.99, even if that was per oz, it's a heck of a gamble to take on the part of someone auctioning minimum $800 of goods at rough current spot - that seemingly from someone who knows at least a bit about silver, given their blurb below the item)
    (2) If I buy this (silver), when it comes time to sell, assuming it's what it says it is - how hard will it be to move/sell? (These are effectively unrecognisable bars, and would likely require an assay prior to being sold here in Australia - do you really want that kind of hassle?)

Last thing I ask - this is of minor if any relevance in most sales/auctions - what motivation can I see for the seller to want to sell this item? In this case, I have questions... the seller is, given the links they show in the auction, at least partly informed about silver and precious metals in general. So, I have to ask - what is their motivation? Obviously, they will obtain fiat for this sale. Maybe they need some - times are tight after all, but if that were the case, why would they take a "bet" on an e-bay auction starting at $0.99, when they would likely be able to take it to any dealer in the area and obtain spot price or very close to it instantly? A little further reading reveals a possible answer - shipping earliest is one week from today.

Which makes me think the seller is not in possession of these bars at this time. If not, why not? And, if not, assuming it's on it's way to the seller - where are they coming from? The mint that made them to order? Why buy from a mint bars that are unrecognisable, made to order, only to sell them on e-bay on a "bet" type auction starting at $0.99?

<sniff> <sniff> Them fish sure smell a bit funny this morning, just IMO.

    /end of my 1oz worth

Yeah, but mate - if he wants spot, and he's not stitching up the postage, where's the margin in it for him?

Nowai he's buying those bars off a mint - assuming .999, below spot, no matter how many he buys at a time.

Fish still need refrigeration here from what I'm hearing and seeing ;-)

Never seen them before - but I note delivery between 31st Aug and 7 Sept for auction ending in 4 days.

24th today, ending 28th allows a couple of days for payment and packaging, drive to Post Office (maybe live in small town location) then Registered post will take anywhere from two days to two weeks depending on where the buyer lives.

Seems fairly accurate representation of time taken for delivery? Registered takes up to two weeks to get to me from Eastern States.

I'm not sure that this equates to the goods not being in the sellers possession?

I think it is reasonable to say item ships 2 days after payment received.
Did the seller divulge more information on the mint of origin? Not surprised if it came from CHINA.:D

I sent the seller a msg asking about these bars just cos they looked cool but i got no reply regarding origin so i searched the web extesively and found nothing the seller had some pretty bad feedback from a few people aswell so not sure I'd trust it. In saying that they would probs be North American just a guess (english enscription)

I will not take it depending on seller's poor feedback.

feedback isn't perfect. If you're really after these AND they are legit bars put a WTB thread on the sale forums, if the seller is an SS member do the trade here minus ebay fees and everyone wins. Personally, not my kind of silver, if they are silver.

Ok i sent him another email and his reply was "I buy alot of silver from a Californian USA supplier who specialises in art bars & rounds most of which he purchases from the Golden State Mint" this is the home of the buffalo round but on their website there is no one ounce bars only rounds so think of that what you will I personally will be giving them a miss

The e bay sellers quote: "I buy alot of silver from a Californian USA supplier who specialises in art bars & rounds most of which he purchases from the Golden State Mint" means absolutely nothing, as it makes no reference to the actual silver that was the subject of the question. Evasive/misleading language like this sets off alarm bells. (just thought i'd mention it, don't mean to patronise). All the best.

Hi BTW, newby. been reading market trader sites for last few years to try and get a feel for the 'truth' behind the 'GFC' and have heard them talking lately about silver as a good investment. Few searches/reads later...i came across this forum. It's been interesting and easy to follow (the threads i have read so far). Many thanks.

I have a current deal with Jim @ Golden state mint for 1000 ounces to be shipped next week... this is my second transaction with them in the last year. They are good as GOLD. :)
