ive always wanted to buy an antique fob chain but without the exorbitant prices. i see them go up to 10 times their weight. however i found this 20 gram one for $25 so i went for it. i looked for the lion passant, found it and said deal. when i got home however i also noticed "e.p" on it... so for a moment i was like wtf... what a noobie mistake. i bought an electroplated fob chain! i didn't want to touch the bloody thing. here are the pics. Source: Source: Source: sorry for the crap quality photographs. i took these photos at night. but then why would someone put ElectroPlate with a lion passant hallmarks. so i did a bit of research. and i found this: http://www.silvercollection.it/ENGLISHSILVERMARKSXEDUE3.html#926ING edward pairpoint.... if im reading this right does this mean my chain is 150ish years old? probably not.... but can someone help me out? the hallmark next to the lion looks like a stylised 'U' in there the 'U' means 1994 but my 'U' is alot more styliesed... http://www.silvercollection.it/shetavola124bis.jpg any help would be great.
From what I could find the "U" hallmark was for 1935, 1955 & 1975 To reload the question: Do date letters differ from gold to silver? Why is there no J in the 20 letters used? What happened in 1995 to change the 20 year rotation and start running with the whole alphabet?
