If you haven't seen the show, basically, if you don't pay your storage fees for 3 months, the locker gets sold at auction. These guys managed to find a safe in one of theirs and this is what they discovered. I've edited to shorten the clip. They bought the locker for $2200 This aired on 06 Dec 2011. I reckon the guy has WAY undervalued this stack ( to his advantage ) as it looks like these guys don't know what's going on! Enjoy!
Ouch, wonder what the storage fees were for 3 months, $250? I imagine some soldier posted to Iraq is going to come home to a couple of letters from the storage company about a problem with his cheque! No way I would use one of those places, get hit by a car and by the time you get out of ICU your retirement has gone to a bunch of whoopin' an' a hollerin' vultures! Didn't see the whole episode, maybe the original owner said 'I'm not paying $300 rent, keep the gold and silver!' otherwise I see this as a sad story.
and the guy's safe was stuffed as well. what a charlie... at the least, you must tell at least one living relative of your stash. You're probably right Jislizard. They are vultures feeding on the carcase of america's entrails. But if you are correct, and it is a soldier, then its tough luck really. If you want to travel to a country you never been to before and starting killing the locals, then don't whine if your safe is empty when you come back. All up though, its a sad testimony to human nature, and its televised too! I don't believe that this show would televise everything; eg. if the vultures opened a safe stacked with 400 oz gold bars and guns, do you think they would televise this? broadcasting the vultures faces nation wide as they rejoice in their "good fortune".
Probably close to the truth for many of these lockers. Down and out people who can't afford storage fees don't leave gold and silver sitting there - they use it.
Search around the internet and you will find plenty of discussion about how the producers of the show put stuff in the lockers for the people to find. It's made for TV drama.
I guess you have a point. When these guys keep hitting the jackpot week after week, it makes you wonder. So in your opinion how much of this show is genuine finds?
You know...the more you watch these shows, the more of them they will make! Judge Judy, Border Patrol, Anything involving contestants being eliminated each week. Actually makes me nostalgic for documentaries!
fucking parasitic reality tv ... Bring back the good old docos and sitcoms. Those who brought us the likes of the kardashians and jersey shore need to take a good long look at themselves.
watch this show on A&E. They had a special on where they talked about the show and they said they go through 100's of lockers before they can but together a show with high paying lockers. They also say the main bidders on the show are constantly get outbided by the general public. I dont think this show is set up although i do belive some of their finds are either under valued or overvalued
Saw this show in the US last year. Apparently they "seed" these lockers with something interesting to keep the show going. So the locker & junk is real, just the diamond rings they seem to find are seeded. Storage Wars Texas (which isnt showing in Australia yet) has some very obvious seeding going on.
