ML, I wasn't there, but I did ask my friend if there was any kind of identification on the slabs and I was told that they were plain slabs with no form of identification or grading. I don't buy old US gold coins, so I am certainly not an expert. But add the lack of identification on the slabs to the fact that they were sold to the pawn shop owner by a gambler and I have little doubt the coins were fake.

This brings to mind the SS thread on Chinese fakes that revealed the gutter oil industry in China. Enough to turn you off streetside Asian food forever.
Yeah the gutter oil and fake eggs (they bounce of the floor once boiled) is fun, not. The worst bit is those people don't even understand what's wrong with making such crap.
