How much would one of these usually go for (or how much are you willing to pay for one) ? Really curious as they usually have such a high premium.

At present not as much as one might think. With the 1oz at $300+ you'd think the 1/2 would be half that but no. Although you could stack a bunch of 1/2's in the hope people will substitute buy them instead of the 1oz if their prices go mega huge, like $500+.

I cannot understand why the Dragon has such a premium. Not even 12 months ago, Peter Strich was selling the 1oz for $100 and now $300 is being quoted. Is the forthcoming release of the 2012 Dragon the reason? Or have a whole lot of people suddenly become interested in them?

Correct weight Julie. In September last year, I bought some 1oz proof dragons from Peter Strich for $120 a coin. In perfect condition, box etc etc. They had been at that price for a while. I remember a couple of years back they were still a $100 coin.

But when you think about it, if the Lionfish with a 10,000 mintage and the Redback with a 5,000 mintage can become premium coins, then the proof dragon with a mintage of 2,500 would be just as likely to become a premium coin. It seems to me the Lunar craze is strong in Europe but not so strong in the US or Australia.
