i have enough saved and if i sell my 1 gram gold bar i would be able to get a 1/10th gold eagle from, apmex current price for one is 182 dollars...plus shipping ...is this a good way to start into gold?
If you are only going to buy a couple coins here and there, then you are better off purchasing from a local dealer, show or forum friend. Shipping on 1 - 1/10th oz from APMEX is pricey, plus they charge higher premiums than most local shops do.
Take a note that many of so called local shops have a minimal limit of gold and silver. The two that are in my city, 1 Gold - 5 silver - 50 oz 2 Gold - 10 silver - 500 oz As far as I know you can make order as low as 50$. (USA) I wouldn't say its that bad. On the other note APMEX has a decent reputation as a dealer. So ...
schmidtyss is located in the U.S. Regardless, small purchases cost a fortune to have shipped. From APMEX: What are the U.S. shipping, handling and insurance charges? * $12.95 (USD) for orders of $50.00 - $249.99 (USD) * $19.95 (USD) for orders of $250.00 - $999.99 (USD) * $24.95 (USD) for orders of $1000.00 - $24999.99 (USD) * Free for orders of $25,000 (USD) and over $12.95 to ship 1 - 1/10th oz is a lot. I personally do not like APMEX, either. The quality of the coins I receive from them has been disappointing on more than one occasion.

If I order from an online dealer, it is usually through Gainesville. Their products are always top-notch, shipping is always fast and more reasonable than others, and they usually have a $5 off coupon code floating around.
i love the shipping form monarch but they dont have any gold eagles...15 seems like alot but if you see how they package it (damn near bullet proof) and they tracking and having to sign for the package...i can see why its 15 extra bucks.
http://www.providentmetals.com/ Monarchs shipping and APMEX selection. Consider Euro-fractionals. You could get a ducat for the price you were willing to pay and it is .1106 ozt.
