Looking for real world pricing for rolls for series 2 lunar silver 1oz coins in rolls of 20? Mouse? $900 Ox? $1,200 Tiger? $1,200 Rabbitt? $1,100 Dragon? $ infinity
What about inflation, or even appreciation.. Maby it's time to re-evaluate this lunar situation. How many dragons did you guys get compared to tigers or mice & how many snakes/horse will we get. Edit: sorry about rhymes, must be feeling poetic 0_o
Why is the mouse worth so much less than say the rabbit? Is it because of the recent "flood" of them back on the market with PM producing up to the 300 000 limit? Surely in the longer term this will balance out because all the series now have 300 000 out there. OR Is it because the design of the mouse isn't as good as the others? malachii
I suspect it has to do with the recent flood of mice within a relatively short period of time (probably to make sure that production doesn't get in the way of the dragons). Locally, they're still affordable, but are not as cheap overseas. Personally, I like the design of the mouse...and prefer it to, say, the ox.
Your option 1 is correct. The mouse earlier this year had gotten to a point where its premium was higher than the Rabbit, Ox and Tiger. Then about March the Perth Mint knocked out the mintage up to its 300k limit. So exactly how many extra coins were minted no-one knows except the mint. So then the Mice came out in plague proportions and the premiums of the Mice already in circulation (ie actually minted in 2008) dropped like a rock and it became the cheapest of the Lunar coins.
This was always going to be the mint's policy and they had stated that openly but if I had paid a premium for the mice I would have been pretty angry about that. Does anyone know the mint policy on minting previous years of other coin sizes? It is my understanding that once a year has finished they can not (maybe will not) go back and mint more - for example the mintage of 10oz ox is final? Cheers
i love the lunar series i am waiting for the 2012 lunar series so i can get some i think next years lunar series are the year of the snake.
1oz silver coins can be minted at any time up to a maximum of 300,000 coins per annual design. 1kg silver coins can be minted at any time in unlimited quantities up until the end of the series in 2019. All other silver coins can be minted in unlimited quantities for the one year period between production of the previous coin ceasing and the release of the next coin in the series.
I decided to get 42 mice to go with the 22 mice that I already had. Premium was only about $5USD over spot. If I later get some dragons and wish to keep my series 2 collections going, I will swap the extra mice for some other coins. If not, buying a lunar coin at $5 over spot is usually a good investment.
