Hey all I'm looking at buying this for my wife as she's year of the pig http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Austra...2002212?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3cd768b8a4 2007 lunar series 1 mintage 333 Could you tell me if this will be a good investment or keep away from these all together An what kinda price should I be paying Any help will be much appreciated First post woohoo
Mrs silverskyhigh: "You spent $500 on THAT!" I wouldn't call that an investment, unless your wife is an avid collector of lunar proof coins
Easy guys, at least she's not year of the Goat (or Dog).. Current year sells for under $400, try to get the price down a little if you truly wish to give this as a gift or wait until the next year of the pig. Resale is limited to 1/12 of the coin collecting population. I think the design is great but it is not overly popular.
is it a gift or an investment? As a gift, it might be ok if thats what shes into, but dont buy it thinking it will increase in value year on year and youll be able to easily sell it for more than you paid for it (Im not saying it wont go up in value.. but as an investment try buying something closer to spot.. maybe a nice 1/4 oz gold coin )
I haven't brought it yet..her investment is our investment Think I'll pass an get something up coming this year To much guys..some very good advice May i ask what's the rarest / most exspensive lunar silver coin
Could be a good buy considering the low mintage of 333, USD555 approx AUD675. Some earlier sets like the snake with a much higher mintage of 599 asking around AUD740. The 2007 pig set sounds like it might be a keeper.
You could buy her a Krugerrand I've heard women love these, And the reward she gives you for such a gift may be worth more than it's weight in gold. Just saying I could be wrong never take my advice.
333 is not the actual mintage of the coins, just the number of 3 coin sets. The mintage of each coin is double that or more, depending on size. You can see them here: http://www.perthmint.com.au/numismatic-mintages.aspx However the pig & dog proofs have different designs from the normal bullion versions. You can tell her that when you give it to her. "Because you are different from the other pigs." Sound good? For Australian proof coins in these sizes (1/2 oz - 2 oz), 2008 mouse, because of the small mintage.
I recommend a young head Queen Victoria gold sovereign or maby a half sov. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-59642-what-is-it-about-sovereigns.html
Just a note on this seller.. It's in Ukraine and only accepts Skrill as payment, not PayPal.. My 2c worth, stay away from this seller...you're better off buying her from other seller, whether you've decided on buying her pig coins or not
