Picked up only a 1oz of this round the other day since I wanted to have it as a keeper. High premium high mintage. But stunning round Roughly 3,520,000 ounces (110 tons) of silver was recovered from this ship wreck. Source:JMBullion Whats your opinion on this round and also the 10oz bar. I would never personally purchase a 10oz bar for a keeper only for an investment and at that high of a premium currently I could not justify the purchase of it.
"Each bar is stamped with the date of the shipwreck as well as its certification as recovered Gairsoppa silver." Sounds comforting to know its authenticity.
Look good. The only silver bar I would actually like to invest in. Another for my growing list! JMBullion don't ship internationally which is rubbish!
so many Gairsoppa silver stuff made from the recovered silver stack... personally my fav is the 1/4oz Britannia silver rounds
I've been uummming and aarrring about these since I spotted them .. still not sure I want to pay what is being asked. :/
It's really expensive for a 1/4oz in my view (royal mint brit). The aftermarket in Gairsoppa silver will find a suitable Price and level out. A huge amount was recovered so i don't think the premium will remain as high as it is now.
I can't see the high premium on them in the future as well. Also I am 100% sure you can easily buy these in the UK since it is british silver ;P Not sure where it was refined however.
I got a couple of the 10 oz bars. They have actually changed the design slightly, I think the newer one has the date of the ship sinking but not sure. I have the older ones. Not sure I will ever get the premium back and there is a lot of this stuff out there but I just liked the idea of owning something that spent so much time at the bottom of the sea.
Whats the best site to get the 1oz rounds from? I was going to get a couple from someone on the forum, but they sold out. Cheers!
If they sliced the top few millimeters off one of the huge bars that were recovered, I'd buy one of those to have a big, flat bar with the original mint stamps on it (and presumably a new "From the SS Gairsoppa" stamp as well). Brand new rounds just don't hold the same appeal though.
