I'm somewhat new to the Lunar 2 series and would contemplate purchasing one or two of the previous year's 1kg gemstone animals. I've seen figures of sales and most if not all seemed to be well below mintage, which is a little surprising, but they would appear to more of a collectors item, especially with the price tag attached to some of them. Is anyone aware of a reissue, or do they cease minting once the new coin is issued regardless of mintage?
Hi and welcome to the forum. The Perth Mint review coin sales for the 1kg Gemstone series randomly, they will either close off the mintage "Declare" or allow the mintage to continue for a few years. The terminology..."Declared" is the same as "Sold-Out", meaning...Declared and Sold-Out items will not be res-struck "ever"! You can review Perth's mintage policy on their Blog or use the search function of this forum to find more info. Currently the Gemstone 1Kg coins that have been declared are: Declared Mintage 1kg Lunar Silver Sapphire Eyes Mouse Coin 2008 - 336 coins. 1kg Lunar Silver Citrine Gemstone Eyes Ox Coin 2009 - 346 coins 1kg Lunar Silver Topaz Gemstone Eyes Tiger Coin 2010 - 856 Un-Declared ??? Sold-out (Hopefully Perth will update their Numismatic Mintages pdf document to reflect...Sold-Out) 1kg Lunar Silver Emerald Gemstone Eyes Rabbit Coin 2011 - 420 Collector site showing...sold-out http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...2011-year-of-the-rabbit-gemstone-edition.aspx pdf document showing mintage. http://www.perthmint.com.au//documents/2011_Perth_Mint_Numismatic_Coins_2012_sales_31-12-2012.pdf Un-Available 1kg Lunar Silver Ruby Gemstone Eye Dragon Coin -1,695 (Un-available) Available 1Kg Lunar Silver Diamond Gemstone Snake - TBA (Available) Note: *Unavailable on Perth's Collector site generally means, The Perth Mint doesn't have stock to place on their web-site for sale or...they are contemplating, declaring the item. (Keep your eyes open though because randomly, Perth will add a few coins as they become available). *Sold-out on the Collector site, generally means, The Perth Mint has sold-out the item. (This may conflict with Perth's official pdf document on final sales because they haven't up-dated the sales list. You'll notice this anomally with the 2011 Rabbit.
