    Hi All

Been a long time since I posted. I have a quantity of silver to sell in a variety of shapes and sizes. I bought it all a long time ago. I figure selling it slowly here will get the best return and would like some advice.

How does this sound as an approach?

I don't want to send anything until I have payment. I have no credibility of course so I figure to start with some small sales and work up from there.
Buyer pays postage, but not sure what type of postage I should insist on.

Don't like auctions so will just set prices between dealer buy price and dealer sell price.

    Anything else I should consider?

You'll have trouble getting payment before post as someone with zero selling history.
I would recommend doing some small payment on delivery sales to well established members, or f2f with local members to build up your rep to start with.

Hi Stedlar, you are the seller so you set the approach so it is up to you as to how much you want to sell at anytime.

About payment, state in your ad what you stated here. "I have little history but I feel uncomfortable about sending first so I prefer to have payment before sending." But to be honest nearly everyone had to send first in the beginning. When I joined here, I myself had to send 5 x $200 gold coins before payment to a long time trusted member with lots of trades first so it is not an unusual request.

If you don't like doing auctions, don't do them. It is your goods and you set the terms. Your pricing seems fair.

About postage, I find simply stating, Postage is your choice and risk. That way you have made it clear that the buyer chooses exactly what they want and the risk they wish to take.

Sounds like you got it worked out, all the best with your sales.

    Hi Stedlar,

Welcome back to the forum! As mentioned above, it is considered etiquette on the forum for a new seller/member with little trade history, to send the items first before payment is received. It’s not a reflection on you, it’s just the tried and tested method for you to have your selling trader history start up and to make further transactions much more simple. Once your history is established and you are of good character, you will then be able to insist on payment first. To start out with, it’s my recommendation that you only sell to members with a 100% buying history. The more recent, the better.

Regarding selling price, I personally have found that when I price my items between spot price and what dealers are selling a similar item for, they sell fast. Of course, you’re the seller and it’s your right to set whatever price you please. Just my humble opinion.

If you happen to be located in SE Qld, I would be happy to do a face to face cash transaction in order to get your trader history started.

Just thought I'd mention that a decent photo of your items help too. Then everyone can see clearly what they are buying, cheers.

I’d start with some face to face transactions first.

I'd happily buy and pay first. Around this time next week I'd put a toe in for anything in the $100 range. Perth address btw.
I recognize your username as one of good standing and you have over 1000 posts.

I'm in exactly the same situation wanting to offload a whole lot but pretty nervous about sending stuff. And us poor chaps in melbs no f2f. Or did you just go for it?
