I just recently got into silver refining by way of dissolving scrap/sterling silver with nitric acid, and recovering it using copper. I've done the process a couple of times now, and I think I got that part down.

But now I have a crap-ton of silver plated objects that are broken or bent. Can I use the same method as normal silver?

For instance, for a silver plated porcelain object, will the nitric (70% half diluted again with water) leave the porcelain and just dissolve the silver? Will it dissolve the porcelain, but that won't matter, or will it be a giant contaminated mess?

Same thing for metal plated (Aluminum, I guess?) Will an abundance of unwanted metal matter for the silver recovery? I mean, there is already junk metal in the sterling I am dissolving. But there would just be a lot more for the plated items.

Or is it better to dip the plated item in just long enough to take the silver off?

    Appreciate any help
