It's a delight to get asked questions about my favorite bullion coin, the Pandas. So I thought I would share some answers to some of the questions asked by others.

Today's question was: Which is the better investment: 2 x 1/20oz or 1 x 1/10oz 2011 Panda coin? Does the numismatic value change? Are either of them more desirable?

    My response is:

That's a fantastic question, 2x 1/20oz or 1/10oz? Normally, I would go for the lower mintage, but since the 1/20 and 1/10 have the same mintage (600,000), I would be considering these two options:

    1. Go for 2x 1/20oz if you want quick liquidity and something easy to sell/trade.
    2. Go for 1x 1/10oz if you want more gold for your fiat.

But here's a handy tip: If you compare the Panda pricing with Roos from a Sydney dealer, you would need to purchase 50x 1/20oz Roos to get a price of $116; or 10x 1/10oz for a price of $202. This shows that the 1/20oz is probably better priced that the 1/10oz, since you don't need to purchase 50x 1/20oz Pandas to get the BARGAIN price of $117 :)

    Hope this helps :)

    [02/09/11 Yennus Panda Pricing 1/20oz = $117; 1/10oz = $205]
    [01/09/11 Sydney Dealer Roo Pricing 1/20oz = $132; 1/10oz = $227]

Just an opinion, but I could see where the 1/20ths would be in high demand should or actually when, gold goes a lot higher. I collect the 1/10, but I've picked up two 1/20s just because the price was so right, 104 and 98

I stick with 1/10. The 1/20's are too small to see the design. (but i do have a few 1/20's)
