Preventing Spam

I just noticed this on the "netrider.net.au" site and I was wondering if we can do a similar thing on SS?

"please do not post any links until you have 3 posts, it will be withheld and moderated to check for spam"

 

Nearly every morning around 2am SS is under attack from spam... Report..Report that is all you can do.

Well others have found a solution without having to Report each time.

Or as I suggested a while ago
You can't register with free email hosts like hotmail
And like on a hotrod furum ,your registration needs to be approved by a mod first

Nah, see I still use my Hotmail. .. that's a crap way of doing it. It should quarantine the new user and then be approved by admin.

 

What do you mean spanner? I called the number and the dude told me my future and cast a black magic spell for me to get a woman. Was fully legit.

 

Yeah i use hotmail too, and we shouldnt be discriminated for using a free service

 

interestingly the spam i've seen here overwhelmingly alludes to an indian origin..

 

I think GP should add a FFS button and all new members their first forwarded to Spanner Monkey.

 

Don't you just make 3 B.S. posts on existing threads to get around the requirement and then start spamming?

I wonder if a 24 hour to 3 week wait on creating new threads after creating your account might be more effective. Depending on how advanced their setup is, the increased overhead in tracking usernames and passwords for multiple sites might makes this a non-viable site to use.
