Wanting some help as my father in law has passed away and I have sorted about 45kgs of pennies and half pennies into year dates and there is also some notes and decimal coins and notes and I don't know how to go about selling these. Could some of you professionals please give me some advise in how to deal with these or who to see about these in Brisbane please.

Probably best to list what years you have and a rough grade so some on here could tell you if you have junk or a couple gems! I'm sure there's something valueable in the lot

    Hi,

In regards to your coins the best way to do this is sort the coins out into 2 piles, but before you do this pick out these dates

    Australian Pennies

    1925 , 1930 ( this is the key date ) and 1946

    Australian 1/2 Pennies

1915, 1923 ( this is the key date ) and 1939 in the kangaroo design

For the rest of the pennies and half pennies, it depends if you have time to sell them 1 by 1 or if you plan on selling them as lots to save time.

please bear in mind selling them 1 at a time can see the most $$ but it might take you a year to sell.

This is how it works if you want to sell them.

    separate coins from
1911 - 1936 ( this ear we normally called it King George V coins )

1938 - 1964 ( this era we call junk mostly kangaroo pennies, expect for the 1946 penny )

if you have no time and just want to get rid of them, its a easy processes, call up coin dealers closest to you, since your already on the internet just google coin dealers (your area or state ). most coin dealers will offer you Copper price for your pennies and half pennies.

WHAT IS copper PRICE , roughly 107 pennies = 1 kilo of copper = roughly $7-$8 a kilo give or take = 7-8 cents per penny and 3-4 cents each half penny

as you can see Australian Pennies MUST BE Quality over Quantity to get the big $$'s

    For your calculation 45 kilos = $315 - $360 roughly

    not much is it?

If you take it to a scrap yard for copper they will pay in Sydney $5.80 per kilo, YES under SPOT

    Method 2.

if you got a lot of time on your hands you can sort them out and sell them 1 at a time on eBay, $1 or $2 per coin make sure you add your postage $1.20

45kilo if all pennies = 4815 coins even at $1 each you should get $4815AUD minus fees eBay on paypal -15% = $4092

this method might take years to sell.

or you can still sell them on eBay as bundles like 1 kilo or 2 kilos at a time. We still would get a lot more then selling as scrap.

sort out the dates into two lots

1911 - 1936 = you should get more money for these coins ( around 1.5 times more than the kangaroo coins )

1938-1964 you will get less for these coins

we can also look at the varieties on the pennies, i will not go into this as it will take 5-6 pages to go through all the varieties of the pennies and half pennies. its worth looking into as you could sell a penny or two for higher $$

Please note this is only general advise.

    hope this helps

    James
