Looks like smallest calipers I can find are still a 25-30cm long box. Hardly pocket size. Isn't there something small, coin specific, that can complement the pocket coin scale? Anyone knows of any shops that sell scientific instruments in Melbourne?
The smallest ones I could find are 4 inch from Singapore. Less than $20 delivered. http://cgi.ebay.com/4-inch-LCD-Digi...278?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c180b0776 If they still to large, you can open them up to max diameter you will need, mark the slider, close the jaws then cut off slider to mark you made. To hard to cut with Hacksaw you will need a emery cutting disk.
These guys have everything- http://www.mtiqualos.com.au/index.php You can buy them here - http://www.totaltools.com.au/stores/default.html Cheers
Here's a different style that may be what you want 310299164492 Only opens to half inch - so maybe only good for thickness .
Meh. Too big, all of them. Has anyone tried optical comparators? Single reticle to measure diameter and thickness should be enough: http://www.electro-optix.com/opticaltools.html How fiddly are those to use, i.e. in order to get consistent measurements? And I suppose we need scale size to be 40-50mm to be able to handle larger coins. But I like the size, much better mobile solution, as compared to calipers.
Since I wasted all morning surfing for this, perhaps I can save that time to others interested. Seems the problem with scale loupes and comparators is that the measurement scale only goes to 30mm for cost effective priced items. Which is just slightly under most coin sizes I'd be interested in :/ I've found some bulkier versions that can handle 40-58mm field of view, but not sure what the scale limit is. Price rules it out anyway. http://www.peakoptics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=13 If anyone can think of something else, let us know.
