Came across the below coin struck around 281BC and thought it would be interesting to start a thread on old 'coins' with pics and their history. What's the oldest silver you own?

Sold for $1,450 on eBay which I think is a pretty good price given I can't fathom how old it is!

I'm thinking my Morgan's, Peace dollars and Walking Liberty quarters aren't quite in that class.

I have a coin that's dated 46 B.C. I was wondering if it is real or not.

If the coin is dated 46 BC by the coin die, then no. :p

Have you posted this coin on the forum before? It looks familiar to me.

    Any way, nice coin. :)

Compared to these coins, my oldest is just a spring chicken...but I guess it is old enough.

I liked the case it came in too...

    What, this one?

Didn't think most of these coins would be so cheap considering the age, condition and history. Some nice buys gentlemen :)

    Seems like I have the youngest oldest coin so far;

House, how do you know it's no fake?

There are lots of talented fake industrialists who created the best quality "like real" replicas.

Same for every bit of silver but did the usual- Bought from a reputable dealer (on here), passes the neodymium magnet test, has a nice 'ping' when flipped and weight is pretty much spot on (little leeway given for wear).

I've seen the fakes and they're pretty impressive. They've even started to do the lesser in demand years too so will stick to just this one for now.

That Utrecht Gulden looks very cool, and I'm guessing its worth probably as much as House's Athenian owl if not more

After seeing the above coins, had to get a much older one! Ended up with a silver Denarius of Domitian 81-96 AD

Actually forgot I won some Maria Theresa Thalers from a Spanner auction. They were from about 1740 so even older than my 8 Reales.

It is in quite good condition. Nabbed it for a bargain.
