    Hi All,

I was just wondering on what everyone's thoughts are on the Perth Mint releasing the 1/2 OZ Australian/American Memorial coin in the 'monster box' format?

Does anyone here think that this may be the start of the mint changing over the packaging for some of their other coins? Maybe the Koala?

    Thanks for your opinions!

Huge success in the US, dud in Australia.

There's a reason we just sold out almost our entire remaining inventory at spot on Cyber Monday. Couldn't get rid of the bloody things. I think the format and packaging is awesome though.

Prices need to be more competitive given the packaging format - they were only about 50c/coin cheaper than capsuled Lunar Horses.

I understand 1oz sizes are planned, but no details are public.

I have always wondered why PM doesn't make the Koala a fixed design (hopefully a good one) and sell in monster boxes for a low premium, it would make stacking Australian coins much more convenient.

One can always dream, I guess..

It's interesting that 'mint cases' are now colloquially called monster boxes, particularly as Mike Maloney routinely points out that only toys come in monster boxes. When I google "monster box", 90% of the returns are about silver coin cases.

It's also interesting that we're having our grammar corrected by a Lysdexic (i.e. Maloney) ;)

Personally not too keen on 1/2 ouncers. It's nice to have a few but the premium is just too high.

They're not attactive to stackers on a budget 'cause they're nearly as pricey as a 'full ton' coin.
