Hey Stackers does anyone enjoy collecting Perth mint series silver 1oz proofs And or proofs in general? (Apart from Dragons..) Interested to see who's into them on here and what etc... *(on a side note, I have one for swap or sale so PM or email me for details)*
I have some... most of them are duds and not worth the issue price though :| My favorite so far (apart from lunars) would be the Wildlife in Need or whatever you call it, that freakin Giant panda is cool.
I have some proof coins, but they were bought for specific reasons and not necessarily for investment purposes.
My proofs: Olympic proof, full set, 24 coins I think Prospector nugget set East vs West Year 2000 dragon proof.
The only coloured proofs I have left are the Tasmanian Tigers which has been one of the few successful ones. Famous Battles in History, Famous Naval Battles, Famous Warriors, Famous Tanks.......etc etc, each series has 5 or 6 coins to it and each has been a dud. Very few winners, deadly and dangerous has been and 1 coin in the sea life series. I'd say your odds of buying a successful coloured proof coin which they flog off for $112.50 each is no better than a 1 in 10 chance.
The only proof coins I have are these stupid coins with a spider and some red marks on it, from some unknown country called Tuvalu (or something like that), don't know if they're worth anything.
I've seen more 1930 penny's up for sale, than an Evansville. this Liberty proof is extremely rare.....I have seen them go for $1200 ( If you can find one ) feds want to confiscate, black market will drive these to insane prices
I have: - Set of the Famous battles in history - Ships that changed the world - Santa Maria - 200th anniversary of postal services in Australia - D&D Box Jellyfish - 2010 Koala gold coin - 2010 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz silver proof - High Relief coin - AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA 1992 2 oz -999/1000 Proof - AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA 1998 2 oz -999/1000 Proof etc I started off collecting proofs then found out about bullions. I am planning to sell all except the gold. etc
I have a few proofs 1990 USA Proof Silver Eagle, 1988 USA Proof Silver Eagle 1 oz, 1993 1oz Silver Proof Kookaburra Opera House Privy, colored 1 oz rabbit series 2 , treasures gold & pearls, This is television 50 years Aust TV, and sea life series 1 except loinfish because I just can't stand the thought of paying so much. And now I have 2 1 oz silver dragons heading my way but i really can't see myself getting to into proofs. I am loving collecting a variety of bullion coin and my main aim is stacking.
the first coins I ever noticed in my life apart from a american eagle gift coin I bought were the Perth Mint dreaming series, bought one each from 2009-2011, but don't like the whole box thing! Take up too much space, won't be buying anymore proof in the future, but unfortunately I can't (so far) register to buy PM bullion, which would be my preference now...
I have Bush babies silver complete 2010 and 2011 kangaroo high relief Sealife 1 incomplete and looking fair price for the missing Sealife 2 begining Wildlife in need Uncesusful set silver proof dragon confirmed without order number (perth mint sucks) Ase 2008 and 2011 A few argentinian A few others
Ive got a fair few PM numi's, mostly coloured that im tossing up what to do with. I started in bullion in mid 08 ...rode out the sub 10 dollar (US) prices without losing my nerve but was bitterfly dissapointed in its performance as it hovered around the 15-20 dollar mark for almost two years post gfc...I was never going to sell as I have always been a "stacker" (although i didnt know it untill i found this site) but i started to pick up PM numismatics as a good way to hedge my bets to a degree if this drags out for awhile longer than I thought. I think this strategy works well but I think I chose the wrong coins Most my PM numi's have barely held their value and some have dropped. Ive got 2 sets of both bush babies and famous battles in history, 6 silver mary mackillops, 2 lionfish, 2 leafy sea dragons, treasures of australia silver locket coins...opal and gold i think, a few gilded koalas, 5 coin dreaming proof set (06?) plus like 4 extra bush babies joeys and 6 extra thermoplyae coins (both first in series) plus a few other bits and pieces. Some of these coins such as the Thermoplyae and bush babies i actually like and will definatly keep some long term but the others have been underwhelming and I would like to be rid of them and use the cash for kooks/lunars. That said i bought most of these coloured coins when silver was 15-25 on oz so selling now and buying kooks would just lock in losses whereass I could just forget about em and wait for spot price to take care of it for me My honest opinion is buy Perth mint coloured coins only if you like them, or if you really think you have found the next redback spider then pick up one or two but they are really hit and miss. I will be sticking to lower premium rounds....with a limited mintage wherever I can.
