Does anybody has any information about these coins? I noticed that there are so many of them available for sale in Taiwan, where I reside at the moment. They are highly priced - $100-$300 USD - and there is big demand for them at the online auction sites, such as Yahoo Bid Taiwan and eBay US. There are different characters written on them depending on the province where they were issued at or the year of mintage. Here are some examples: Are there any years or provinces of issue that are hotter than others?
I could not believe it myself when I first saw that. Check this out: $350 http://cgi.ebay.com/China-Chihli-Pe...919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf84735e7 $255 http://cgi.ebay.com/Pei-Yang-Dragon...770?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25651e980a $372 http://cgi.ebay.com/China-Pei-Yang-...764?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6786214c
Hmmm...not to sure :| Just found this http://cgi.ebay.com/1898-CHINA-CHIH...ps=63&clkid=1309003873363067616#ht_2458wt_656 and can find other's going for $9.90? I know Yennus and PandaCollector (and perhaps the rest of you) are going to flame me but 'me smells Panda...'
Knock yourself out GilM http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?action=search2 http://www.dragon-dollar.info/ http://ykleungn.tripod.com/index.html http://www.kenelks.co.uk/chinese/chinesedragon.htm And yes, counterfeiting is a huge concern with these coins. Please post any major findings in the Panda forum when yennus gets it going.
Hi, Yeah these coins are only going up in value and the demand is unreal, theres a massive amount of fakes going around though so be warned, so many of these high auction price coins are just fakes... the fakes are quite nice. I have a real collection and a fake collection.. as usual fakes are light and seem new-old, the characters and detailing arent as crisp I have found the smaller china coins are less likely to be faked so do buy them online. 1for1
Thank you Shiney for the links and thank you 1on1 for the info. Tomorrow I'll start doing my homework and look into this more deeply. Just for reference, here is the Taiwanese auction site I look at http://tw.bid.yahoo.com/tw/2092074528-category-leaf.html?cat=2092074528&fp_ad_hits=3&p=&b=103 You can find many of these coins over there. Google Translate helps me with the Chinese...
The Chinese coins above are similar to the Florins and Shillings and Crowns that circulated in Australia/Commonwealth - basically that is money from around 100 years ago that circulated in China. The Pei Yang is around 0.75 oz asw and the prices of these coins are akin to the dynamics/reasons for the prices of for example the 1938 Crown - cheapest one is around $120 for 0.84 oz asw ! China had many different provinces ( most of them issued them ), different years and mintmarks, designs plus we are nearing the age of the Dragon and bubblelike pricing could occur. Recommended to only the serious investors - unless you can find them for spot + 10%
honestly I think that not quite same. 1938 crown is cozs by mintage, chinese coin mintage lots than 1938 crown and 1937. The reason I think is that ebay seller have some shadow account to keeping bid their item to mark-up the final price. The really price or the final ture price must be rechecked with seller selling history. and there have too many FAKE!!
You can shillbid a coin as much as you like, but there must be a buyer on the other side. Put up a 1937 Aussie Crown and shillbid it however you like it and it wont sell for more than $50. Someone is buying those coins at those prices
