I could hardly believe my good blessings today I'm just a lowly Panda fan, so it is not everyday I come across some rather uncommon/rare Pandas. As I was picking up the recent lot of 1/4oz 2010 Gold Pandas for everyone, I came across some 2003 1/2oz Gold Pandas. [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/675_img_0711.jpeg][/imgz] These are rather uncommon since their mintage was only 25,000 and during that time (2003) spot gold was hovering at around $350. Thus only the real Panda collectors and fans were really buying into these (unlike now, where many people are buying Pandas for investment reasons). [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/675_img_0712.jpeg][/imgz] To give an illustration of how few 2003 pandas are available (even less in their Original Seals), there were equally minted amounts of 1988 Masterpieces in Silver sets produced in Australia. Source:http://www.nwwone.org/world-war/1988-Masterpieces-In-Silver-Bicentenary_290559413784.html 25,000 1/2oz 2003 Pandas - about 1 person in 56,000 can have a panda. 25,000 1988 Masterpieces in Silver - about 1 person in 800 can have a set. I didn't have the cash on me at the time to purchase these Pandas... but you can expect some rather fast silver sales coming up next week to help me afford this pair of Pandas Hope you found this interesting. Thanks, Chris.
Would love to sell one of the 1/2oz Gold Pandas, but I need to afford one first APMEX pricing (at 12PM 24/06/11) is $1395USD each. Hopefully when (no longer a question of if) it comes to buying a pair of these Pandas, I'll be able to get a bargain a below that price
No need to, it is in its Original Seal. No fakes have ever been detected within Original Seals. If you were to remove a Panda from its Original Seal, it would ruin the value of the Panda, unless you were to get it slabbed (E.g. PCGS, NGC, etc) shortly after. Question: Can you XRF something behind plastic?
The 1/2 oz. size gold Panda has not been popular with either collectors or counterfeiters (there's probably a connection there). Maybe that's why I have not seen any fake 2003 1/2 oz. gold Pandas. There are counterfeit 2003 silver Pandas, though. Good luck reeling these in, they are an excellent find. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
Once again, I am deeply honored to have this Panda man comment on one of my posts... truly an honor... thank you Pandacollector! I'm a huge fan of your work, and highly recommend it to everyone!
