Hi, Ive got some pamp minted gold bars, fortuna series. I think the only thing that will redeem their fuglyness is removing them from their cards. How much I'd this really going to affect their value? They will still be worth spot and a bit of a premium for pamp - I can't see the price difference being massive. Thoughts?
Of course you could get SPOT and even a bit more. but you definately wont get what you would get with the certicard.
dont worry this sissy attitude will disappear eventually as the common man gets used to seeing and being around buillion
What worries me with these plastic enclosed bars, what happens when their copied. And they will be . How could you tell?Open them to test? Wouldn't touch them.Rather have them out of packaging for less. Wouldn't buy an enclosed bar. Can easily do a specific gravity test,an acid test, weight and measurement test on unenclosed. How can you do that on plastic sealed gold.
What, those cheap 100 mills copies you're holding? Hey, if you want to pay to have them go through an XRF machine to prove they're legit...
I probably wouldn't pay spot for them because I wouldn't see any reason for removing them from the card unless you were making fakes or they were stolen or something
Or someone removed them from their packaging to test if they were fakes or not. How could you tell otherwise. How else could you be sure. I wouldn't touch enclosed one's.
And would a XRF be the only way to be sure? Not implying that any plastic encapulated on the market at the moment are counterfeit, but given modern technology,in a few years time, they are the perfect target.Much better target than an exposed coin or bar. So how could a ordinary buyer be sure without an xray machine at that time?
If i had a de-carded 1 oz gold fortuna, id never give it up for spot. Not sure what the premium is at the moment tho.
Um excuse me but them is fighting words I am prepared to let this one go... maybe you have lost your glasses... can't really see the bars....... would explain why this in the wrong section.
+1 If there is a perception amongst buyers that by de-carding the bars they are worth less then this certainly encourages fakes to enter the market. Those producing the funny-bars will have a time-buffer to sell and evade before the buyer gets sus. There was a kid on ebay selling Perth Mint carded bars but was removing the actual bars from packaging and replacing with copy bars which were sanded on the back to remove the "copy" stamp. His undoing was automatically accepting "best offer" bids at almost half under spot price. I kept buying one at a time just to see how silly this kid was until I "bought" 6...one of them at $300! I reported him and he was shut down but had sold MANY bars at a reasdonable price. I wonder if the other buyers have ever opened their funny-bars to find out the truth or have they kept them carded because they are scared that they will lose value?
