    Hello!

I'm thinking of investing some money in near future into Platinum or Palladium. The Palladium is "much" cheaper but I suppose Platinum is much rarer (and being also more used, at least currently). Most of my portfolio is in silver. I have around 2oz of gold, so I'm thinking of diversification to other metals as well. Platinum price also looks quite "solid".

Are there any recommended Platinum/Palladium coins for beginners, which are "safe" investment?

    Thanks!

    BR

Thank you for your fast reply and info! :)

The first link is not working.

The coin is very nice. Are there any smaller coins like 1/2, 1/4, 1/10 oz? Smaller coins would be much more affordable in the beginning although the cost/oz on them is higher. :)

In this country, gold, silver and platinum do not attract the GST but palladium does. The GST here stands at 10 percent.

Here only gold is VAT free (I wonder for how long). It was 20%, now it's 21%. Silver, palladium, platinum, are all taxed.

Palladium sound interesting to, and it's almost half cheaper than platinum. EU supposedly "demands" that all car manufacturers use palladium instead of platinum, because is more friendly to environment.

plantinum attracts GST doesn't it? :/

Also I thought plantinum was used in more diesel cars/trucks in developed countries that manufacture vehicles where palladium was used of petrol vehicles in emerging markets such as China and India etc

Caput Lupinum - plantinum attracts GST doesn't it?

As far as I am aware, it does not. Will see what I can find to confirm.

    GST-free supply

Under section 38-385 of the GST Act, the first supply of precious metals after its refining by the refiner, or on behalf of the supplier will only be GST-free if the recipient of the supply is a dealer in precious metals.

As defined under section 195-1 of the GST Act, precious metal means:

    (a) gold (in an investment form) of at least 99.5% fineness; or

    (b) silver (in an investment form) of at least 99.9% fineness; or

    (c) platinum (in an investment form) of at least 99% fineness; or

    (d) any other substance (in an investment form) specified in the regulations of a particular fineness specified in the regulations of at least 99.5% fineness.

No regulations have been made to specify any other substance.

To be precious metal for the purposes of GST, the metal must therefore be gold, silver or platinum.

    Links fixed.

A few of us have asked Perth to consider fractional size Platinum Platypus coins, especially the 1/10oz but I don't think Perth are very interested.

The older fractional Platinum "Koala" coins are available on the secondary market (ebay), here's a link to completed sales:

    Cheers

Thanks, but first link still doesn't work. :/

I will search the forums, no problem.

Hope they will make 1/10oz someday.

    And thanks for second link.

    I've found another 1/10:
    Platinum noble 1/10 oz

Looks like they have only 1. :)

Wooow, this is probably one of the best ideas I've found on this forum since I've joined, if not the best. :) At first I was thinking if this is a joke (some Australian chocolate company I don't know :D :D ).

50g of gold is still quite a lot for my current financial situation, would be nice if they have 25g bar, but I will buy (at least) one in near future. :)

    Thank you lady! :)

Btw, I've searched a little bit about Palladium coins on eBay. There are very few, and mainly older coins. Some older aren't even so expensive, considering their age and weight (compared with older silver/gold coins).

How many grams is that nice big fat one on the bottom right hand side?

I'll have a guess and say 6 gms.
